Cardinal George Pell said to parents of abuse victims: “It’s all gossip until it’s proven in court”

In 1997 Cardinal George Pell said to the parents of abuse victims who were whistleblowing on 5 paedophile priests: “We won’t believe any of this. It’s all gossip until it’s proven in court”. It’s one of many examples of George Pell covering up for paedophile priests over many years with some saying he was involved in the cover-ups as far back at the 1970’s. So, it no surprise that Cardinal Pell himself has been charged.

George Pell is about to see firsthand if paedophile allegations can be proven in court given the charges laid against him by the Victoria police on Thursday 29/6/17. What exactly George Pell has been charged with I don’t know other thanmultiple historical sexual offencesas announced by the police as per their press release below. But there are previous claims that he sexually abused 3 boys and claims in the recently published book “Cardinal: The Rise and Fall Of George Pell” that George Pell forced 2 boys to give him oral sex in the 1990’s.

A big problem for Pell is that even if he is found not guilty of the charges other evidence might be uncovered during the trial that Pell helped cover-up the crimes of other priests. And that is exactly what is happening in Newcastle now:

“ARCHBISHOP Philip Wilson – the most senior Catholic cleric in the world to be charged with concealing the child sex offences of another priest – will face a two-week hearing in November.” (Click here to read more)

In the below video is Anthony and Christine Foster who had 2 daughters abused by a priest. They fought the church for 9 years to get compensation. Pell said to them regarding paedophile priests: “We won’t believe any of this. It’s all gossip until it’s proven in court”

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Fox: Lateline 2012 in relations to George Pell:

the Fosters and others in 1997 pleaded with him to remove five other priests that were involved in, or believed at that stage to be involved in paedophilia, away from being in schools and contact with young children. And his comment to them on that occasion was, “It’s all gossip until it’s proven in court. (Click here to read more or watch the interview)

Previous history of allegations and cover-ups by George Pell – (Click here to read previous articles on this website)

Pell basically started his career in Ballarat Victoria and right from the start the cover-ups were going on all around him but he says he saw nothing. The Guardian says:

Young Pell was plucked from Australia to train in Rome and at Oxford for the big career that was always beckoning. He returned to serve briefly and unhappily in a remote parish on the Murray before being brought into the heart of the diocese of Ballarat which was a hell of child abuse.

Pell swears he saw little or nothing in those years.

Strange that the career of a man who would climb so far and so fast was marked early on by such a want of curiosity. He would explain to Australia’s royal commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse: “It was a sad story and of not much interest to me.”

He sat on a committee that transferred Father Gerard Ridsdale from parish to parish. The crimes of this vicious paedophile were notorious in Ballarat, known to the bishop and familiar to other members of the committee. But by his own account, Pell never asked why this priest was always on the move. (Click here to read more)

In 2002 the church hierarchy paid a senior barrister, Mr Alex Southwell QC, to investigate allegations the George Pell had sexually abused a boy. I wrote in an article in 2014:

Mr Pell and the paedophile allegations

“A decade ago, a Melbourne man claimed he was sexually molested as a 12-year-old at a Catholic youth camp by a student priest he knew as “big George” and later recognised as the Archbishop of Sydney. After a church-appointed inquiry, Pell said he was grateful to God to have been exonerated.”

“In fact, retired Victorian Supreme Court judge Alec Southwell had said that both Pell and his accuser gave the impression they were speaking the truth. Taking into account questions about the accuser’s credibility (he had a criminal record) and the fact that the alleged incidents occurred so long ago, Southwell found he was “not satisfied that the complaint had been established”.”

“Tony Abbott hadn’t waited for the judge’s decision. “It should not surprise any Christian that there would be people who want to make unfair, wrong, mischievous, malevolent accusations against the strongest and most public Christian of the time,” the politician said when the allegations were first aired. “I’m more than ready to accept Pell’s testimony.”

The retired Victorian Supreme Court judge Alec Southwell was on the Church’s payroll as it was an internal Church inquiry so he was hardly impartial. The full report was put on the Churches website in 2002 but has since been taken down. Part of it can be read on the Broken Rites Australia website. (Click here to read)

Pell turns a blind eye to paedophiles and caught lying about it

“As archbishop of Melbourne, he allowed a priest found to have sexually abused a teenager after officiating at his mother’s funeral to continue working in another parish. In Sydney, he said in a letter to a man named Anthony Jones that the priest who sexually assaulted him had been the subject of no other complaints, when in fact Pell had written to another of the priest’s victims that same day. The letter to Jones was “badly worded and a mistake”, he said later.” (Click here to read moreIt was not a mistake, it was clearly a lie and cover-up and Pell was caught out. Sub judice – False reports on what you can and can’t say on social media now Pell has been charged

Almost everything said about Pell is already on the public record so I don’t think anyone should be too worried about what they say. Some people are saying you can’t make any comments about the case because it is now sub judice which is stupid as even the public prosecutors statement below says you can comment but it must be fair coverage. Given the subject matter I think almost anything is fair coverage.

Cardinal: The Rise and Fall Of George Pell

The book Cardinal: The Rise and Fall Of George Pell went on sale only a few weeks ago on the 14th May 2017 and makes some major allegations of sexual abuse of children by George Pell. On Friday it was announced by the publisher that it would stop being sold in Victoria for the duration of George Pell’s trial. It’s really too little too late and how does anyone stop online bookstores selling books to Victorians? And then there is book reviews all over the internet featuring all the allegations.

And what about the Catholic Church using its firepower to defend George Pell and in effect attack the alleged victims. The Mercury reports:

HOBART Archbishop Julian Porteous says he is “shocked and disappointed” his former colleague Cardinal George Pell has been charged with historical sexual offences by Victoria Police.

“I think it’s terrible these claims have been made against him. I don’t believe they’ve got any substance to them,” Archbishop Porteous said.

He said he was also worried about the impact the high-profile nature of the case would have on a fair trial.

“The possibility of a fair trial is compromised. I don’t know how a jury could proceed with a trial where [there is] so much media out there.” (Click here to read more)

The comments by Archbishop Julian Porteous are amazing and probably a contempt of court where he attacks the alleged victims and says: “I think it’s terrible these claims have been made against himI don’t believe they’ve got any substance to them,” Obviously Archbishop Julian Porteous never heard there was a Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse that is still afoot and due to hand a report to the federal government in December 2017 outlining thousands of victims. And many thousands of those victims were at the hands of Archbishop Julian Porteous’ fellow priests.

For decades the church has done everything possible to deny victims justice such as making Anthony and Christine Foster who are in the above video wait 9 years for a settlement and now they say George Pell can’t get a fair trial so therefore Pell should walk free without trial. Pell said after he was charged that he was looking forward to his day in court to clear his name so let’s see if he remains true to his word.

  1. If it is proven that Mr Pell is a Paedophile, well lets hope they throw the book at him and then some. Based on all the material that is readily available of the World Wide Web, it is shameful that it has taken this long for the Police to act. He is lucky I am not one if the (12) jurors.

No monetary value can compensate the loss, grief and torture the families and victims have endured at the hands of the clergy. Many lives have been taken due to cover-ups and systemic corruption.

What the VICTIMS should be demanding is that the judges that will take carriage of this case, should be required to sign a declaration stating that they are not a Paedophile, and have never engaged in such conduct, whatsoever. The Public should be demanding this !!

  2. Nelson Mandela did the smartest thing. He had a truth commission. This allowed people to confess and move on. The victims say this themselves “No monetary value can compensate the loss, grief and torture the families and victims have endured at the hands of the clergy. ” No one would confess with vindictive lawyers circling.

    • SOME people who say that do nor represent the entire crew of victims involved.

No money can give me back the first 6 years of my life because my mind ‘drew’ a blanket over it and I remember nothing before my 6th birthday.

But it would be satisfying to hear the perpetrator confess and to see him held to account.

  3. I am sickened by the fact that the establishment is so corrupted to protect people like Pell and and the so called righteous judicial garbage who oversee and protect this system. Please continue to pursue these diseased people as they need to be exposed which will also start to ( I HOPE ) sanitize the system we currently have

  4. In a perfect world the ideal situation would be that whoever is involved in this case should be normal, happily married people, with children of their own, and be committed atheists.
A very very rare possibility in this day and age, in a world with so many sick, corrupt bastards in it at all levels of society.

  5. In Iran they hang pedophiles and rapists. That is justice.

    Some things cannot be forgiven.

  6. Pope sacks cardinal in charge of sex abuse cases, a conservative critic
    JULY 2 2017 – 11:33AM

Pope Francis has sacked the head of the Vatican office that handles sex abuse cases, just days after he released Australian cardinal George Pell to return home to face charges of historical sexual assault.

The developments underscored how the Catholic Church’s sex abuse crisis has caught up with Francis, threatening to tarnish his legacy.

Francis on Saturday declined to renew the mandate of German cardinal Gerhard Mueller as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican office that processes and evaluates all cases of priests accused of raping or molesting minors.

Most incumbents keep the post until they retire, which in Mueller’s case would have been in six years. Francis named Mueller’s deputy, Monsignor Luis Ladaria Ferrer, a 73-year-old Spanish Jesuit, to run the powerful office instead.

  7. If I commit a murder and then you become aware of it and you don’t tell the police you are guilty of the crime being an accessory after the fact. It’s the same for any crime including paedophilia.

  8. Hopefully God will shine a very bright light upon Australia`s Legal System. When god has shone that light it will expose a nation built upon a legal structure that does not respect family or community. God will then impose a statute from heaven that binds the legal profession to respect our families and communities via the church of truth and transparency that will restore the trust of our citizens in this essential industry. The failings of our legal system has bought shame upon our nation, upon the Church and has hurt many good people who are committed to the faith and do go to church on Sundays. Currently our laws respect brutality and do not incorporate a heart, a brain or any semblence of moral fortitude. Let us all look forward to the divine intervention.

    • A very good comment by lawyersorgraverobbers, BUT where has your God been whilst all this has been going on for years and years, where has your God been during the years corrupt, sick and brutal people that have caused war’s, genocide, starvation, terrorism, corrupt police, military dictators, evil, greedy self serving politicians, carefully constructed legal systems by pure evil people, we could go on and on with examples of astounding behaviour of so called human beings, the most evil of all through out history has been the church no matter what religion.
      WHERE IS GOD?

      • Where is god? I can certainly say that if god is a good god, then you will be wasting your time searching within the Australian Judicial system, I promise you you will not find god within that den of vipers. A sane god would stay well away from this pit of hell, but then if there were a good god surely a manifestation would appear with thunderbolts and re-arrange the Australian legal system so as it is accountable to the community it should be serving by searching for the truth via transparency in order that we can all trust it to perform in our interests. I guess we will have to do the rearranging as god will be a long time coming, It has been about two thousand years and we are still waiting.

  9. The “Gossip” phrase must have been given to the church and spread among all priests by a PR consultant. A few years ago a number of parents who’s sons had been abused were talking after mass outside the church. The priest – a friend of Pell – came out and told them to go home and stop gossiping.

  10. There’s only one way Pell’s trial won’t be fair and that’s if a rock spider judge is appointed to preside over it.

  11. THANK YOU for writing about this. Thank you for exposing these monsters. You do an amazing job, please don’t stop.

  12. I have a feeling that Mr Pell is in more trouble then is being published. From the good citizens who knew Mr Pell many years ago there is a lot still to come out.
