An Australian dairy farmer says we might be drinking powdered milk in a few years because of problems in the dairy industry. This was reported during a Channel 9 story on the takeover of Lion Dairy & Drinks, by Chinese company China Mengniu Dairy, which produces brands such as Dairy Farmers, Masters and Pura milk, Dare and Farmers Union iced coffee etc.
The main point of this article is not about another Australian company being taken over by a foreign company but what happens when unchecked corruption takes place and its flow-on effects. In this situation, a lot of dairy farmers are leaving the industry and one of the key issues is the fact that they have to pay exorbitant prices for water which they can’t afford. The reason they are paying too much for water is because of “government corruption and mismanagement” of the Murray-Darling Basin water system says pastoralist Rob McBride.
This leads to less supply of milk and means Australia has to import even more dairy products than we already do because of insufficient production to meet our needs. Now add that to a Chinese company taking over Lion Dairy & Drinks and the problem could easily come to a head very quickly.
The reason is that the Chinese are known for importing our food and selling us their food. A prime example is Capilano Honey who has been selling Australian honey to China while at the same time importing fake Chinese honey and selling it to Australian consumers via their Allowrie brand. This was proven to be a fact and Capilano stopped selling the Allowrie brand in January 2019 but to my knowledge, Capilano still imports and sells honey from China which is likely still fake honey.
So, the question is will China Mengniu Dairy, who have taken over Lion Dairy & Drinks, start selling Australian milk in China and start importing Chinese milk here to sell to Australian consumers. And if so, will it be fake milk like the fake honey they sell around the world including in Australia?
Won’t happen with milk? It has happened before in what was known as the 2008 Chinese milk scandal.” Wikipedia says:
“The 2008 Chinese milk scandal was a significant food safety incident in China. The scandal involved milk and infant formula along with other food materials and components being adulterated with melamine. Of an estimated 300,000 victims in China, six babies died from kidney stones and other kidney damage and an estimated 54,000 babies were hospitalized.” (Click here to read more)
Yes, that was 2008 but the Chinese fake honey fraud involving Capilano was happening at least until last year and quite likely still happening now so there is no reason the Chinese milk fraud won’t happen again.
And it didn’t stop in 2008. The BBC reported another Chinese milk scam in 2010 and said: “Chinese food safety officials have seized 64 tonnes of raw dairy materials contaminated with the toxic industrial chemical melamine. Test samples showed the milk powder carried up to 500 times the maximum allowed level of the chemical.” (Click here to read more)
It’s also interesting that China Mengniu Dairy also “completed a $1.5 billion takeover of infant formula company Bellamy’s in December” 2019.
The takeover by China Mengniu Dairy of Lion Dairy & Drinks was approved by the ACCC on Friday (21/2/20) but it still has one hurdle to go and needs to be approved by the Foreign Investment Review Board.

Then there is a short video of NSW State MP Helen Dalton who is the Member for Murray from the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party and farmer/irrigator Chris Brooks talking about water license corruption and how politicians don’t have to declare their water licenses.
Yes, there has been a lot of rain in some parts of Australia in the last few weeks but as reported today in relation to NSW “Despite the replenishment of the river system, more than 99 percent of the state remains in drought“.
A few more points from the Nine story
Nine reported: “The Lion brands included in the dairy and drinks division include Dairy Farmers, Masters and Pura milk; Dare and Farmers Union iced coffee; Big M, Dairy Farmers and Pura Classic flavoured milk; Vitasoy soy milk and coconut milk; juice brands Daily Juice, The Juice Brothers and Berri; and Yoplait yogurt, under licence.”
Nine journalist Ross Greenwood also used the example of gas and said that even though we are one of the biggest gas producers in the world in recent times there have been gas shortages right along Australia’s east coast. (Click here to read more) Mr Geenwood did say why but it is well known it is because Australian gas producers have sold gas overseas at a price where it is cheaper to buy it overseas than we can buy it here in Australia. The point that was being made is that it could happen with milk as well.
What is happening with milk and dairy products is at least in part affected by the water fraud and theft of the Murray-Darling Basin water system which has had a huge impact on dairy farmers as well as other farmers and producers. The fraud and theft have personally involved people like federal MP’s Angus Taylor, Barnaby Joyce who orchestrated the $80 million Cayman Island water fraud and Water Minister David Littleproud who has also been involved in the corruption.
The fraud and theft of water in the Murray-Darling Basin is now starting to impact right across the whole country and the federal government is busy trying to sweep the corruption under the carpet because federal MPs are personally profiting from it.

I agree with comments about foreign ownership of our production. Both major parties take no action to prevent it happening – so they encourage it. One point to note is that the “Lion’ brand of milk products has been bought by Chinese interests from another Asian corporation. Australia sold it some years ago. Ken
Very interesting video. While I was watching this all I kept thinking about was “We are playing god” We are trying to manipulate our environment for our own needs(greed,ego) and it isn’t working. It must be incredibly frustrating for people like Rob McBride. They see a problem and there are all these hurdles put in the way for a good solution to be found.
Milk is meant for baby cattle, not for humans. The Chinese may be doing us a favour.
Milk is a natural, healthy beverage, used to make cheese, yogurt, butter, cream, cream cheese, sour cream, custard and low-fat milk containing protein, calcium, magnesium, folate, B1, B2, B6, B12, and vitamins A, D, it can be heat-treated for longer life and powdered for use in places where basic milk is not available.
If the mother of a new-born human cannot breast-feed then the baby is given a milk substitute and recommended for a healthy child.
Beer and other alcoholic drinks, soft drinks containing excess sugar are not healthy beverages and much of the home, potable water is treated with chlorine and fluoride which is also not healthy.

Yes, but the difference is that Japan doesn’t have the same history as China of importing one food type from a country and then exporting the same food back to that same country which they have done with honey in Australia and the honey turned out to be fake honey. They also don’t have the same history with selling poisonous milk as China which I talk about in the article.
Due to the Federal, State, local councils and every government department including Australia Post, Centrelink, Tax Dept, High Court, Electoral Commission having Australian Business Numbers are now private corporations, all registered in the USA with the Exchange & Securities Commission.
The Constitution Of Australia is ignored along with Democracy and therefore Australia is ruled by Dictators who make the rules.
Non of our Public Servants/Government Departments were given permission by Australia’s citizens to become private corporations.
Voters are voting for those private corporations, which one will not sell more of Australia.
I thing Australia really needs a radical change in it political system and one of the main changes should establish an independent body of judgment on the accountability and make politicians liable for their decisions otherwise the corruption will never stop

Two points to be made.
China has a major colonisation program running. We are but one country targeted but our mediocre political Class do not see it.
Nationally we are not short of water but it is not where it is needed, It is not harvested and stored appropriately. The solution is capture and transport We have the technology but again our lack of visionary politicians is preventing implementation.
Perhaps our good best friend China will offer to fund an aid project.
