Scott Morrison has in effect ruled that under a government he leads there will be no federal Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) anytime this century while at the same time promoting the credibility of discredited former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian as others in the Liberal Party flagged her return to politics. This guarantees that corruption will be front and centre as a key election issue for voters at the next federal election and that is where it should be given the current amount of government corruption.
As per the below video, on Thursday (25/11/21) in federal parliament when Scott Morrison was asked why the government had not introduced a federal ICAC over a 1000 days after they had promised to do so Morrison blamed the Labor Party. Then Morrison went on to attack the NSW ICAC for their treatment of Gladys Berejiklian claiming the NSW ICAC was a Kangaroo Court. It was an extraordinary attack from a Prime Minister and government who have a lot to fear from having a genuine federal Independent Commission Against Corruption because a number of federal politicians will certainly end up in jail.

Morrison’s attack on the NSW ICAC on Thursday was also a massive own goal for Scott Morrison and the Liberal Party who seem to be trying to normalise corruption the same as Gladys Berejiklian did with pork barrelling when she said it was not illegal while defending her own government’s widespread pork barrelling.
If Morrison had at least introduced legislation for a federal ICAC, even a weak one, then at least he could say the government was not running scared of a federal ICAC. But now it is blatantly obvious that the government are running scared and trying to use false allegations of Gladys Berejiklian’s poor treatment by the NSW ICAC as an excuse as to why Morrison has not introduced a federal ICAC is about as dumb as it gets. There were quite a few people who attacked the NSW ICAC, including Scott Morrison, when they announced their investigation into Gladys Berejiklian in October 2021 and she resigned the same day, but they all fell silent once witnesses started giving evidence. And by the time Berejiklian was finished in the witness stand she had no support from anyone.
Yet for some reason it looks like a real possibility that Morrison and the Liberals will nominate Gladys Berejiklian to run in the seat of Warringah:

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has fuelled speculation Gladys Berejiklian could be parachuted into a federal seat after claims the NSW anti-corruption watchdog is a “disgrace” and a “kangaroo court.”
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has raised eyebrows in recent days by launching an unprecedented attack on the watchdog and claiming Ms Berejiklian had been “done over” by the corruption probe – despite the fact it is yet to report any findings.
Asked whether Scott Morrison was laying the groundwork for Ms Berejiklian to run as a candidate for the Sydney seat of Warringah at the next federal election, Mr Frydenberg lauded her as a “wonderful leader and incredible politician”.
“There will be decisions she will need to make in her own time. But I would hope her career in public life is not over,” Mr Frydenberg told Sky News. (Click here to read more)

Scott Morrison, Josh Frydenberg and Tim Wilson are laying the groundwork for Gladys Berejiklian to run at the next federal election which I think would be election suicide and put corruption front and centre which is the last place Morrison and the government should want it or can afford to have it. It could also be hugely embarrassing if the NSW ICAC hand down their report before the next federal election finding that Gladys Berejiklian had acted corruptly. But maybe that is the strategy to put pressure on the NSW ICAC not to publish a report before the federal election.
With the way the federal government is heading regarding corruption the next federal election could define Australia for decades. And the election could be here sooner rather than later. maybe March 2022, as Scott Morrison’s control on his own government is gone, as this week in parliament has shown, with a number of backbenchers ignoring Morrison’s agenda.

LNP They don’t want an ICAC because they want the freedom to be corrupt.
Seems like Morrison has delusions of grandeur and won himself in a raffle in a Banana Republic. Liars habitually forget their lies.
Wow !! does their hubris never end ? I see why I have hated the liberal ideology my whole life. They are basically criminals who learn the law so they can corrupt it or just outright break it. That’s what they do. They lie and dissemble their way through parliament while trying hard to protect their voter base which is greedy, sky fairy believing, cashed up criminals like them. They may not deal drugs but they sure as hell know how to find a dishonest dollar or a scam and a deal. Shonky business types that discovered it’s easier to rip off the Australian tax payer via the government than it is to rob the till at work. Their methods of deception and fraud should be taught in schools to prepare children for the coming years.
The coalition have such a long history of dubious conduct that it would clog up a federal integrity commission for years. Rarely does a week go by without another somewhat scandalous issue being exposed followed by a cover-up, or smokescreen, or denial, or effort to obfuscate.
Morrison just puts another layer of brown paper over the issue then hopes the media and voters will forget. Frequently they aligned media form a good part of this amnesia process.
It’s quite simple as to the reason why the don’t want an integrity commission. They know they would be in a great deal of trouble if they did. It’s easy to suspect that there’s a lot more beyond the tip of the iceberg we see too.
They have not progressed with such an independent body because what they would cook up would be a toothless tiger and that would also be contentious to many who are aware of what they do.
People are sick and tired of a government that spends a lot of time pretending to do things.
It appears they want freedom to lie, freedom to manipulate, freedom to cheat, freedom to abuse tax payers money. Quite honestly I have not seen anything like this in Australian politics in my life. Nor the level of arrogance. How dare anyone question their behaviour.
They also want freedom to turn Australia into a dystopia where they hide everything they do while constituents are scrutinised at levels not seen in any other comparable first world country that calls itself a democracy.
That should be a signal to any politically aware person: while they hide, they want ordinary Australians completely monitored. They also want to control the debate by cracking down on freedom of speech when it is critical of anything they do. 1984 anyone? And for god’s sake don’t be whistle blower.
As far and Morrison’s comments about Berejiklian and the NSW ICAC go, this comes straight out of the Trump playbook again – its very similar behaviour to the way DJT interfered with his twitter commentary. And it is quite obvious the prime minister either does not understand what separation of powers means, or alternatively has no respect for them. Once again he also demonstrates that he is the prime minister for NSW, or for only Liberal voting states and Liberal premiers.
We’ve never seen such blatant partisan behaviour in Australian politics at the federal level before, and it is not the first time from this government.

Totally agree Brian. I use to believe that the ALP was better than the LNP. Now I see the ALP as being the slighter lesser of 2 evils. If the ALP do come to power they will water any ICAC down and I’ll be surprised if they make it retrospective. Meaning the LNP criminals will get away with their corruption.

When one looks back to the pre Royal Commission (into the Australian Financial Sector) the L/NP government were doing their utmost to dismiss the call for an Inquiry into Australia’s major banks et all. However, the call had been acted on and had gone on to identify the massive theft by the Big 4 Banks & other financial institutions, of so many resultant aggregated millions of dollars being illegally lifted from their customer accounts.
In effect the L/NP party coalition party didn’t give a damn about the ongoing unwarranted illegal grasping of the millions of dollars from their customer base accounts.
This says much about the mentality of the L/NP party in their aiding the wealthy corporations at the cost of their plundering the Australian people’s meagre weekly wages.
This serious matter in the above goes a long way to prove the dishonesty embedded in the L/NP party, also the failure of Australia’s Regulatory Authorities, they too were turning a blind eye to the thefts by Australia’s banking moguls.
I have exemplified here that Australia hosts a hugely dishonest and uncaring leadership party despite its pretending to be otherwise.
Morrison is a latter day Joe Bjelke-Petersen.
He doesn’t know the meaning of the separation of powers.

Doesn’t the establishment of an ICAC mean that who ever is in the “box”, must tell the TRUTH! … “I rest my case”.
No, whoever is in the box does not have to tell the truth. In a case I know about lawyers were cross-examined under oath and told untruths, the Judge knew it and ignored it. Hopefully an ICAC would behave with more integrity than that judge.
The red and blue teams have had decades to establish a national anti-corruption body, but decided to sit on their hands and do nothing about it. Now we are seeing the consequences due to their incompetence. Worse still, state police, as well as the government’s own Nazi goon squad endorse the corruption. Look how they did nothing about Cash’s illegal raids on the ALP’s offices.
