Kathryn Campbell attended an Army dinner over the weekend just passed, which included the Chief of Army Lieutenant General Simon Stuart AO DSC as a guest, while she is still under investigation for the Robodebt scandal by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) which is headed up by Commissioner Major General Paul Brereton.
Add that to what I wrote on the 23rd of October, “Army Colonel and barrister Gary Hevey RFD SC has been appointed as Counsel Assisting the Robodebt investigation that the National Anti-Corruption Commission Commissioner, and Army Reserve Major General, Paul Brereton was exposed sweeping under the carpet to at least in part protect his mate and fellow Army Reserve Major General Kathryn Campbell.”
“The NACC has become riddled with defence force personal, and how Colonel Gary Hevey was employed as Counsel Assisting for the Robodebt investigation needs investigating to see if all declarations were made regarding possible conflicts, and if they were made, why was he still employed given the obvious perceived bias with his military career.” (Click here to read the article)
The Army’s involvement and/or links to Robodebt and it’s investigation hasn’t weakened, but has in fact strengthened, since Paul Brereton’s cover-up attempt was exposed.
Kathryn Campbell retired as a Major General in the Army Reserve in 2021, and as per the below picture, was at the “Randwick Barracks Officers Mess played host to the 2nd (Australian) Division Regimental Dining In night over the weekend.” (Click here to see on the 2nd Division – Australian Army Facebook page)

Below is the Chief of Army Lieutenant General Simon Stuart AO DSC at the same dinner.

NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton has been caught lying numerous times recently about his ongoing role in the Army Reserve as a Major General, so he could give advice to the Inspector-General of the ADF (IGADF), and there was no obvious reason to lie.
But maybe Brereton’s lies, at least in part, also have something to do with his ongoing relationship with Kathryn Campbell through their Army connection.
Kathryn Campbell’s ongoing relationship with the Army at its highest levels is relevant given the NACC also has an ongoing relationship with the Army at it’s highest levels via its Commissioner Major General Paul Brereton.
I have to wonder if NACC Commissioner Major General Paul Brereton also attended the dinner over the weekend. And when was the last time Major General Paul Brereton spoke to his mate Major General Kathryn Campbell?
And has Major General Paul Brereton or his mate Major General Kathryn Campbell ever spoken to Army Colonel and barrister Gary Hevey RFD SC who is Counsel Assisting the Robodebt investigation?

NACC Commissioner and Major General Paul Brereton, Colonel Gary Hevey who is Counsel Assisting the secret Robodebt Investigation and Major General Kathryn Campbell who is under investigation for crimes during Robodebt.
We might be a bit wiser come Thursday as the NACC and the Inspector of the NACC are back before the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the National Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday (11-12-25) for a review of their annual reports which should be live streamed on YouTube here starting at 9am Canberra time.
Admin: Three weeks ago, I launched a campaign with a simple goal: find 200 new monthly supporters so I can keep doing this work as a fully independent journalist, running this site and the YouTube channel without corporate backing or paywalls.
Since then, 27 wonderful people have stepped up and become monthly supporters. That’s huge, thank you!
We’re now at 173 to go.
If you’ve been enjoying the work and aren’t yet supporting monthly, I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d consider joining them. Here’s the situation:
Like most independent journalists, I’m basically a one-person small business. Right now a lot of us are feeling the squeeze, just like many small businesses and households are. To stay afloat and keep bringing you the reporting I do, I need roughly 200 more people chipping in whatever they can comfortably afford each month.
Anything from $3 to $100 (or whatever works for your budget) makes a real difference. There’s no lock-in, you can cancel or adjust anytime.
If that feels doable for you right now, you can see all the options on the donations page by clicking here.
Your support, whether it’s a monthly donation, a one-time donation, or just sharing the work, is what keeps independent voices like this one alive.

So, is Kathryn Campbell going to take the fall for Morrison? She is under investigation only at this stage.
These people have the hide of a buffalo – because they know they’re safe to do whatever they want.
The corruption never ends. Why is there no justice
Why do we allow our employees to continue cheating on their employers? Us the people of Australia. The title honourable needs to be removed. Members of parliament & their contractors must be made more accountable for their actions.
Guilty of anything, pay the penalty.
The actions by the Senior Defence people do absolutely nothing to indicate that Defence is trying to soften its beligerent bullying and narcissism to others.
Kathryn Campbell’s tenure as a senior public servant is now defined by the Royal Commission’s findings: a breakdown of leadership, a collapse of oversight, and a failure to act when clear legal and ethical warning signs emerged. Under her watch, Robodebt continued despite mounting concerns, producing widespread hardship and damaging trust in government.
The Commission described a culture in which scrutiny was dulled, dissent went nowhere, and crucial questions were left unanswered while the scheme rolled on. Campbell’s leadership approach — as officially recorded — allowed serious issues to drift instead of being confronted.
The human cost is well established: wrongful debts, distress, and harm to vulnerable Australians. These consequences occurred while the department, led by Campbell, failed to halt or reassess the program’s legality and impact.
After the scandal, Campbell’s move into another senior role intensified public frustration about accountability at the top of the bureaucracy. The APS Commission later found she breached the APS Code of Conduct on multiple counts, cementing official criticism of her professional handling of the matter.
Campbell has become a case study in how administrative failure at senior levels can inflict national-scale damage when leadership does not respond to warnings, uphold safeguards, or protect the people government exists to serve.
Every statement above is based solely on public findings and documented outcomes.
What do all those generals and other senior officers in the Army Reserve actually do besides organising and attending variousb regimental dinners?
This is all about mateship. But Id like to know where it started. Brereton obviously knew someone who offered him the role of the NACC. Was this Drefus? Was it advertised widely to get the best person for the role? I think not, and now Brereton is using the same flawed approach with his appointments. Brereton needs to go. He’s s well and truly too old, too stuck in his ways and blindly using cronyism for appointments that require more consideration.
Why hasnt Brereton gone?
Brereton pulled off a miracle when he headed the Brereton RC into the dozens of recorded murders of Afghanistan civilians by ADF forces yet managed to hide the perpetrators and the entire middle and upper military hierarchy of culpability into an apparent black hole while the whistleblower went to jail.
So of course, he was eminently qualified to head the NACC inquiry where a similar result was desired by both major parties who have both been criminally involved in their various ministerial positions.
Military people always support the government. Recently I heard Labor Senator Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Tourism and one of those named on Tuesday for requesting a significant number of taxpayer family trips, costing $45,926.84 in the year 2024-25, all covered in the rules, speak on radio. He was quite clear. As the NACC hasn’t found any corruption, there is no corruption amongst politicians and public servants.
I have published a video version (Podcast) of the above article on the Kangaroo Court of Australia YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/zhvC4CxuUvc
While the NACC continues to refuse to accept that the RoboDebt RC had a point and that Smirko the clown should not have been able to demand a “responsive public service” rather than the independent one which is part and parcel of the Westminster tradition, we will all have difficulties.
Currently we appear to have the worst of both the Westminster tradition and the “Yes master” of the US system.
F.F.S, the RoboDebt RC found 2 politicians and 4 public servants or now former PS behaved very badly, unethically and in an amoral fashion. The NACC’s job was to decide upon the “illegal” and decide upon which and how many charges to be laid.
I want these people prosecuted, so that I never again have to watch a smartarse lawyer, needing to be reminded by a Royal Commissioner of the potential for a charge of “Misfeasance in Public Office” and its penalties.
I really believe that when the Coalition and Labor vote together we get very bad laws passed.
In very recent media reports about the NACC, Greens senator David Shoebridge accused Paul Brereton of floating “wild conspiracies, without a shred of evidence.”
Yet in his first speech on becoming a justice of the NSW Supreme Court, Paul Brereton said:
“There is no such thing as a conspiracy. You simply don’t have all the facts.”
