Shine a light on who’s funding our politicians – Start taking back our democracy

Australia’s old media the ABC, Nine Entertainment’s The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) and News Corp have been sneakily attacking Community Independents which shows their bias towards the Liberal Party / National Party and Labor Party UniParty.

The ABC, Nine’s SMH and News Corp etc use terms like “Climate 200-backed independents” or and “Climate 200-funded independent” or “Teals” to imply they are controlled by Simon Holmes à Court and/or they are not independent.

I don’t have an issue with calling them the “Climate 200-backed independents” etc, but what I have an issue with is the ABC, Nine’s SMH and News Corp etc don’t do the same for other politicians which proves real bias.

And real bias by so-called impartial media equals corrupt media.

So, I thought independent journalists like me and the public should solve the problem and start shining a light on who’s funding our politicians which will help take back control of our democracy.

And as a bonus people like billionaires Gina Rinehart and Rupert Murdoch won’t be happy.

Independent Zali Steggall called out David Speers on the the ABC’s Insiders program on the 15th of May 2025 as per the below video between the 45 second mark until the 1:35 minute mark.

Zali Steggall on the ABC on the 15th of May 2025 – (I published the below video on the 21/5/25)

(Click here to watch the above video on the Kangaroo Court of Australia YouTube channel)

Below are 2 examples of Nine’s SMH using what I regard as deliberate subliminal messages designed to manipulate voters:

On the 5th of May the SMH published an article titled, “Teals fight to hang on as races tighten around the country” which says in part:

Climate 200-backed independents were also looking threatening in Labor-held seats of Fremantle in Western Australia and Bean in the ACT.

Climate 200-backed independent Deb Leonard said she expected Aldred would be elected in Monash, but argued the fact the race was close was an achievement in itself after a three-cornered contest with Labor. (Click here to read more)

On the 13th of May the SMH published an article which said in part:

This Victorian seat, held by the Liberals for more than four decades (most recently by MP Zoe McKenzie), is facing a challenge from the Labor candidate Sarah Race and Climate 200-funded independent Ben Smith. (Click here to read more)

Notice how the SMH refers to the Community Independents as “Teals” and “Climate 200-backed independents” and “Climate 200-funded independent Ben Smith”.

Why doesn’t the SMH be fair and balanced and call Liberal MP Zoe McKenzie “the Gina Rinehart sponsored Liberal” or “The Rupert Murdoch backed Liberal”?

The bias and propaganda of Nine’s SMH has been exposed by their own words.

On the 21st of May News.com published the below graph which shows Teals on 6 seats and independents on 5 seats.

News.com election chart

How did News.com determine who is a Teal? Because they are sponsored by Climate 200.

Did News Corp ask the other Independents and other politicians who they are sponsored by? Of course not given News Corp fund and support the Liberal Party / National Party coalition.

On the 9th of May I published a poll on Twitter as per below: (Click here to see on Twitter)

Gina Rinehart's Liberal Party

We can start taking back control of our democracy just by talking the truth and spreading the truth.

From now on I will regularly refer to the Liberal Party as the Gina Rinehart sponsored Liberal Party or the Rupert Murdoch promoted Liberal Party.

For the National I will do the same and refer to them as Gina Rinehart sponsored National Party or the Rupert Murdoch promoted National Party.

I’m short of names for the Labor Party so please add what names you think we should use for all other political parties in the comment section below, but please don’t use abuse as it adds no value.

If we keep using names such as the Gina Rinehart sponsored Liberal Party it will help wake people up to who is running the county, and/or having a huge influence for their own greed, which undermines democracy.

Australia’s politics is going through a major transformation and if we keep shining a light on the above it can and will make a difference.

  1. Before the duopoly was disbanded at the recent election they had agreed on new funding laws to make being elected as an independent difficult. This hasn’t changed and it is highly unlikely that Labor will review the decision.

  2. Labor is constantly referred to as “union backed” though it would seem to me that unions have little power or cash compared to the gambling and fossil fuel companies which give to Liberals and Labor alike in an ‘each way bet’ approach for influence.

Even the name “Teals” is an attempted smear that they are somehow all alike and are really Liberal Greenies – or that they should be – and are therefore a combination blue/green or Teal.

Journalists in the main are lazy pack animals who borrow from each other, adopting narratives and language in order to legitimise themselves and to dumb it down for the citizen who is easily manipulated by such things.

  3. Thank you, KCA. Only one small problem, I’ve already thrown my hands in the air as a result of the Canberra swamp arrangement. You have not provided room for my party of choice, the suck eggs party. Can you help?

  4. Money talks, who is funding our politicians, to allow them big election advertising campaigns, influences the policies they legislate. Not just these wealthy people, but we need to look at the many other businesses who have donated to Labor, the current government. In particular some of the biggest donors to Labor since 2014 are:
    Pratt Holdings………………………..A$5,600,610.00
    Australian Hotels Association….A$3,336,803.00
    The Pharmacy Guild………………..A$1,940,450.00
    Communications, Electrical, Plumbing Union……A$1,810,090.00
    Construction, Forestry and Maritime Union……..A$1,488,110.00
    PriceWaterhouseCooper…………A$1,201,372.00
    Woodside Energy Group………..A$1,140,265.00
    Ernst & Young……………………….A$1,077,632.00
    ClubsNSW……………………. . A$898,025.00
    Tabcorp Holdings…………………..A$855,930.00
Santos Limited………………………A$759,911.00 is the 18th biggest donor.
    The total is over A$74million.
Now we can see why effective bans on gambling and protecting nature and native forests and habitats doesn’t rate highly in the Labor Party.

    • 18 new or extended coal and gas fossil fuel projects, were approved by Labor during its last term. How many will be approved this term?
Seems Labor is similar to the Liberal Party denying global warming/climate change is caused by burning fossil fuels. We know burning fossil fuels releases greenhouse gases which increases air and ocean temperatures.
Resulting in more extreme weather events causing distress to more people, and nature.
The current flooding and droughts in different parts of Australia?

      • HAARP – WEATHER WEAPON OR RESEARCH FACILITY? 17 locations in the world and one is in Antartica.

Aren’t these Haarp bases causing much of the irrational weather patterns we have seen for some years now? and worse since 2020?

Blaming fossil fuels etc., then WHY did the Dinosaurs become extinct through higher temperatures when man kind was a mere blip on the population numbers radar, and Industry was non existent?

      • To Gumnut.
The great extinction, so scientists have deduced was probably caused like the “Little ice age” by massive volcanic activity and or multiple asteroid impacts. Why don’t you guys just google information like this, there’s loads of information?

    • No wonder the Labor Party is so unwilling to do anything to stop deforestation. $1.5 million from their union. It’s disgraceful!

  5. I believe, without doubt this corrupted and or biased media is the most important problem facing the country. Its whats holding back reform on just about everything. How many billions of dollars does this relentless 24/7 undermining of the Independents and the Albanese Labor Govt its entire term in office and opposition prior to their election in 2022, actually cost year on year out, by the vested interests involved in bankrolling what is this 5th columnist like subversion of the commonwealth?
Are these media “Hosts and programming management receiving secret inducements from these vested interests for their relentless bias reports and shows or is it actually part of their job? People in these positions in our media should be seen to be above reproach, completely unbiased. I just hope the AFP and ASIC have been monitoring their phones and emails to make sure there is nothing we should be concerned about? Even after this 2025 election, all we are still getting is this constant LNP distraction dribble being reported, the only thing seen about the election and new Govt was on the 12.30 Wednesday Press club address by Paul Erickson? Look at social media posts on X and Facebook that have been demanding the removal of many of these LNP biased ABC “Planted” hosts now year after year? Everyone knows its crook!

    • Controlled Media has been going on throughout the World for ,many years.

There was legislation stopping conglomerates “owning” sections of business and one area was The Media. But as we know Corporatisation was instituted and even AUstralia is a Corporation registered in USA:

Using the same “News” releases throughout the World started when FAX machines were used. My understanding is that there are six (6 ) only, owners of the Media.

      • Media has probably been manipulated since the printing press was invented? Martin Luther and the Catholic church had good go at it? Australia had good media ownership laws under Hawke and Keating. Howard cancelled them and we got this biased LNP/Murdoch monopoly. Abbott cancelling Murdochs $890 million tax bill in 2013 no doubt helped. Now Abbott’s on the News Corp board, Credlins got a job for life in his “Sty After Dark”, sheltered workshop for discarded LNP flotsam and jetsam, nothin suss!

  6. It’s admirable what you are doing Shane. The problem is the media for it’s their job to call out the truth and how can that happen if it’s going to affect their gross obscene personal wealth. The Labor Party is not without blame but fare poorly as they are treated differently. The bias from the ABC et.al. is disgraceful and it’s time they were called out.

  7. Thank you KCA,
It’s well past time we clearly know who’s funding who
    Aussie Bob

  8. I imagine Irene James will be doing a similar breakdown of monies paid to other parties as a comparison.

  9. I suggest a regular distinction between the ”Murdoch sponsored IPA LIARBRAL$” as distinct from the ”Rinehart sponsored NOtional$”.

Auntie Gina has as her favourite toy boy pollie the NOtional$ representative in New England, the adulterous, alcoholic, bigoted, corrupt, deceitful, fornicating, sexually harassing, misogynist Baaaaaarnabaaaaby Joyce aka ”Beetrooter”. Her $40,000.00 compensation (declined under public pressure) for being ejected from Parliament leading to the Kiwi bye-election was well noticed in the electorate, and advised thinking voters what was suspected ….. Beetrooter looks after himself first second & always.

    • Barnaby “Never the right choice” Joyce, looks like he’s orchestrating, yet another leadership knifing as we speak? It may well be the Nationals leader again well before the time Parliament resumes? Don’t ever say the Nationals don’t know how to recycle their garbage?

  10. Our democracy’s been taken hostage by political gangs backed by billionaire bullies – and their media mates are the enforcers. They smear independents as “Climate 200-backed” while keeping quiet about who bankrolls their own.

This isn’t journalism. It’s a cowardly, rigged game of propaganda!

    Rotten. Corrupt. Un-Australian.

I want the leaders of all political parties to front up and publicly distance themselves from this disgraceful, undemocratic behaviour. Stop hiding. Stop playing dumb. I’m sick of watching our democracy rot while they all sit silent.

Stand up – or step aside.

    • Fred, your suggestion to have all leaders assemble and distance themselves from this state of affairs would only lead to one thing. Their lips would be moving. You know where I’m going with this, don’t you?
      Jim R

  11. From todays Saturday Paper! More confirmation of the LNP/Media subversion of politics in Australia by these usual suspects!
The Liberal Party’s troubles with its coalition partner have dominated the news, but the more insidious challenge for Sussan Ley will play out behind the scenes. Insiders say the party’s survival depends on rejecting the strategic direction of former prime minister Tony Abbott and his chief of staff, now Sky News presenter, Peta Credlin. They counselled Peter Dutton on policy, and after the election rout it was Abbott who brought Jacinta Nampijinpa Price into the fold. A decade after his ousting, Abbott is at the centre of a network dedicated to amplifying a far-right agenda. One senior Liberal told Jason Koutsoukis, “These people are like a cancer… And if they have their own way, they will kill the Liberal Party for good.”

  12. From Labour to Labor – the party who removed U (You) from their concern, interest or care!

  13. 45+ years ago in Tasmanian politics Bob Brown called the two major parties (whose policies were almost indistinguishable) the Laborial Party. The real power in Tasmania lay with the Hydro Electric Commission, a huge unelected public authority which called all the shots.
