Anthony Albanese’s social media ban for children under 16 will step up a gear if Google follows through with their threat to take legal action against the federal government for adding YouTube, owned by Google, to the list of banned sites.
Anthony Albanese announced today that YouTube were added to the list of banned websites so now the ball is in Google’s court.
If Google does take legal action, it would be a good thing for the public as we would get a close look at why the government has made the decisions they have and what part the Murdochs played.
The SMH wrote Google believes, “that the ban could be challenged because it restricted the implied constitutional right to freedom of political communication.” (Click here to read more)
I have no doubt that the major drivers for the social media ban are Rupert Murdoch and Lachlan Murdoch, who want to increase their share of advertising revenue, who Albanese thanked when the ban was first announced last year.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said today:
“Our Government is making it clear – we stand on the side of families.
Social media has a social responsibility and there is no doubt that Australian kids are being negatively impacted by online platforms so I’m calling time on it.
Social media is doing social harm to our children, and I want Australian parents to know that we have their backs.” (Click here to read more)
I responded to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s comments in the below video that I published Wednesday (30/7/25):
(Click here to watch the above video on the Kangaroo Court of Australia YouTube channel)
The banned sites are TikTok, Snapchat, Reddit, Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.
The Albanese government wants to ban social media sites that do harm to children but refuses to do anything about Murdoch’s decades of lies and propaganda via his media.
I published an article on the 17th of November titled “Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp set to make $millions from Labor’s social media ban for kids” which starts off:
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Labor Party have done a dirty deal with Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp to attack social media, via a social media ban for kids, which is obvious if you dig just a little bit below the surface.
One example is the Kids News website, which is targeted to years 3 to 12 and owned by Murdoch’s News Corp, which would stand to profit greatly if children were banned from spending time on its direct competitor’s websites which are the social media giants.
This is happening at a time when the Labor Party is also attacking free speech and political communication like there is no tomorrow via their new misinformation laws. (Which was abandoned)
The article goes on to say:
Rupert Murdoch and Lachlan Murdoch’s trojan horse
The Kids News website is really Rupert Murdoch and Lachlan Murdoch’s trojan horse to attack the social media giants that have crippled Murdoch’s papers over the last 20 years.
The reason we know this is because Anthony Albanese thanked News Corp when he announced the plan to ban children from social media.
The Kids News website, owned by Murdoch’s News Corp, reported on 7th of November 2024
“Mr Albanese paid tribute to News Corp Australia, publisher of Kids News, for its Let Them Be Kids campaign highlighting the community concern around children’s access to social media and the negative impacts on their mental and physical health.” (Click here to read more)
It says on the “about page” on the Kid News website:
“Kids News is a free, news-based literacy tool for classrooms. Register your email now to use kidsnews.com.au and sign up for the Kids News newsletter. You will find the link on the homepage under Sign Up Free.” (Click here to see)
If you click on the Kid News privacy policy link it takes you to the “News Corp Australia Privacy Policy” page which says in part:

Yes, school children in grades 3 to 12 are signing privacy agreements with Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp who are harvesting the data to sell to advertisers.
News Corp in effect say they are data harvesting school children when they say, “we may use your personal information” “to enter into contracts with you or third parties” “for other marketing and client relationship purposes”.
Yes, Murdoch’s News Corp are using school children’s data to sell “to enter into contracts with you or third parties” with the help of the federal government.
The new laws will come into effect in December 2025, and the government were meant to announce how it will work on Wednesday (30/7/25) but they have delayed the announcement.

Reflecting back, we thought Morrison was bad, really bad and Australia voted to rid Australia of that Evel man, with fresh hope Albanese rode his horse into town to safe Australia, turns out he’s no better than the evil man he replaced, the more I read from KCA, and not from Murdoch stables tripe news, Albanese is now worse and less trustworthy than Morrison, selling Australia down the drain at every opportunity, sold out our sovereignty to USA and the evil US citizens of the Murdoch’s clan. With no effective opposition, the useless NACC there is no stopping Albanese, McCartneyism is alive and well, just an updated version to cause fear …Qld had Joh B Peterson, Australia has Albanese and his mate in NSW Minns.
We love voting for people we can blame for things, sheltered from the truth that we create these people by our slack attitude to self-government. While it’s true we make a dog’s breakfast out of new inventions (remember the human benefits television offered and what we made of it?) we have a chance to use social media in a way television was denied when sacrificing it to Mammon. Instead of banning it, the government might have made a deal with Youtube to promote a channel that uses video instruction for the benefit of Australian society. It would have a branch for kids so they can learn by themselves what the schools have proven incapable of teaching – like the English language and the arts (that civilising influence governments neglect in favour of sport). Kids are learning machines. It’s the duty of government to facilitate that, not stymie it.
Thank you KCA!
If I’ve read this article correctly … then what on earth is going on?
Am I seriously to understand that the Albanese government has banned kids under 16 from major social media platforms – not simply to protect their wellbeing – but in a way that conveniently benefits a Murdoch-owned “educational” website that collects user data?
Is News Corp’s Kids News, which asks children in grades 3 to 12 to register and agrees to share their personal information for marketing and partnerships, now being positioned as the government-endorsed alternative?
Did Prime Minister Albanese REALLY thank News Corp publicly when announcing this ban? If so, why? What role did the company play in shaping or supporting this policy?
Is this truly a child protection initiative, or does it risk functioning as a strategic market intervention that favours one powerful media outlet over others?
Why does a government concerned about misinformation appear silent about the influence of corporate media giants – and now allow them to engage directly with Australian schoolchildren?
Who gains from this shift? Who is collecting data? And how are families being informed?
Because if I’ve read this article correctly, we’re not just talking about child safety – we’re looking at a major redirection of youth online engagement, with commercial implications and serious privacy questions.
What number of regulatory authorities should be on to this, right now?
Well, I reckon you could start with:
Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC)
Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)
eSafety Commissioner
Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)
Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS)
Department of Education and State Education Authorities
Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC)
Australian National Audit Office (ANAO)
I can’t go through the whole list but the oaic will take 3 years, literally, to get back to you – they are simply an information suppression arm of whatever party is in gov. And the ACCC? Their Chair, Gina Cass-gottlieb, was previously a director of the Murdoch family trust and is likely in her position for the purpose of continuing to support them. The public service is captured.
When our Govt. claims it’s just protecting the kids my bullsh*t detector goes into the red. And the Opposition goes along with this!!
The “social media ban” is about censorship, not about protecting children. Otherwise, PornHub and X-Videos would have been banned. This is also a form of Digital ID.
This is just another form of authoritarianism, which the people are experiencing on all fronts at all levels, governments are increasingly about CONTROL.
All parents should be worried about is protecting their children from this government, I wouldn’t want such personal data in their hands. What is the Govs solution to it ever being hacked? offer a new ID? It’s a pedos gold mine to boot and we know they want them all queer friendly from birth. It will also ensure sure they are trackable for future UN jabbery line ups. Driver license is still enough to fine and ID you, resist this or die.
