NACC lies go next level with NACC’s Rebekah O’Meagher exposed verballing NACC Inspector Gail Furness

National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) senior management have taken their lying to parliament to a new level, as per the below video, with NACC General Manager Legal Rebekah O’Meagher verballing the Inspector of the NACC Gail Furness SC, to avoid answering questions in parliament about a corruption investigation into NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton.

Rebekah O’Meagher’s verballing of Gail Furness SC forced Ms Furness to correct the record not long after, which should have been embarrassing, if not humiliating, for everyone concerned, as Gail Furness SC was sitting behind Rebekah O’Meagher, at the senate hearing on the 9th of February 2026 when the verballing happened.

NACC CEO Philip Reed frowns after an exchange with Senator Shoebridge (9/2/26)

Background – The Inspector of the NACC has been investigating the NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton since late last year for concealing his ongoing relationship with the Australian Defence Force as a Major General in the Army Reserve. And continuing to advise the Inspector-General of the ADF regarding the Afghanistan War Crimes Inquiry, which Brereton headed up.

The below video is a 6-minute edited version of the full hearing and covers the key issues as detailed below:

  1. NACC CEO Philip Reed starts off the hearing and says the Inspector of the NACC Gail Furness SC sent a letter on the 6/2/26 saying she is investigating the NACC for “agency maladministration or officer misconduct,” and he can’t answer questions in relation to that because of procedural fairness.
  2. Senator for South Australia Leah Blyth LP says she has a “whole wad of questions she won’t now ask” to “respect the integrity of that investigation.”
  3. Greens Senator David Shoebridge calls out the lie about not answering questions because of procedural fairness.
  4. NACC CEO Philip Reed palms off the question to NACC General Manager Legal Rebekah O’Meagher who you can see by her facial expression is not happy about it.
  5. Rebekah O’Meagher implies the Inspector of the NACC Gail Furness SC supports them not answering questions because “she did not raise any concerns,” and later says, “We were consulting with the Inspector because she is the one running the investigation.”
  6. Gail Furness calls out the lie. She says she was only sent an email from the NACC that afternoon, a few hours before the hearing, telling her what the NACC was going to do, and she only acknowledged the email.

The below video is edited from the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee on Monday the 9th of February 2026. (Click here to watch the full video)

NACC General Manager Legal Rebekah O’Meagher is guilty of verballing the Inspector of the NACC Gail Furness SC which is exposed at the end of the video when Gail Furness calls out the lie and action needs to be taken against Rebekah O’Meagher.

The Committee should have asked NACC CEO Philip Reed and/or NACC General Manager Legal Rebekah O’Meagher if NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton directed or advised them not to answer questions to the Committee?

Inspector of the NACC investigating the NACC for corruption

In December 2025 I wrote, “The NACC Inspector, Gail Furness, told the parliament on Thursday she had received “close to 90 complaints” since the 1st of July 2025 about 3 issues. Firstly, NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton’s connection to defence, secondly, the Commissioner’s ongoing role with the IGADF and thirdly, the procurement of counsel assisting.” (Click here to read more)

On the 5th of February, or close to it, the Labor government leaked a letter to the ABC that was sent from the Attorney-General Michelle Rowland to NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton on the 12th of October 2025 “asking why he did not adequately disclose his ongoing work with the ADF.”

The fact that the government leaked the letter to the ABC a few days before the Senate hearing on the 9th of February, as per the above video, suggests that NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton’s time is up as far as the government is concerned.

The following day on the 6th of February 2026 the Inspector of the NACC Gail Furness SC wrote to the government saying,

“I write to advise you that I have decided to investigate the complaints I have received about the NACC Commissioner’s involvement in defence-related referrals and the Commissioner’s ongoing role with the IGADF as complaints of agency maladministration or officer misconduct under s184(1)(e) of the National Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2022,”

“To date, I have been making inquiries about these two matters. Now having sought and received material from the NACC, I have decided that that information warrants an agency maladministration or officer misconduct investigation.” (Click here to see the full letter)

NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton is a massive lability for the federal Labor government, as he was appointed by them, and they must have decided he needs to go as he’s doing too much damage to the Labor Party’s reputation.

When Brereton’s own boss, Attorney-General Michelle Rowland, is leaking damaging information about him you would think he would get the message and resign.

  1. The NACC is working exactly as designed by the Albanese government and the then Opposition Leader Peter Dutton. Labor Senator Don Farrell said the NACC has found no corruption in Australian politicians or public servants. Spoken in a radio interview a few months ago.
