It has been a bit of a wild year for independent journalists and social media users as the government tried, but failed, to bring in misinformation laws but succeeded in passing minimum age laws for social media users that will impact everyone who uses social media.

The Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 introduces a mandatory minimum age of 16 for accounts on certain social media platforms and is not due to start for 12 months which raises the question of why was it rushed by the government.

How the minimum age laws will work no one knows which would have to make it one of the strangest laws to have ever been legislated by parliament. 

The proposed misinformation laws were clearly designed to silence government critics given the 2 biggest spreaders of lies and misinformation are the government and the old media, and they were both exempt from the proposed laws and fortunately the laws failed to pass parliament.

The Kangaroo Court of Australia website and YouTube channel was having a solid year, but nothing special, then finished with a small tsunami after Alan Jones was arrested because I have been writing about him for 10 years and had plenty of content ready to go for videos.

The YouTube channel gained another 4000 subscribers in the last month and one video on Alan Jones broke the KCA record with over 174,000 views.

It is still short of the website record of 870,000 views, for one article on Capilano Honey, but the YouTube channel now has over 30,000 subscribers and is heading in the right direction.

Another topic that should be noted is Bill Shorten’s crime gang were hit with civil charges in August for stealing $2.7 million, the real figure stolen is more like $24 million, from some of the lowest paid workers in Australia and they will likely also face criminal charges.

I have been writing about “Bill Shorten’s crime gang” for 10 years in relation to stealing from the Health Services Union / Health Workers Union and the media recently used the term “Asmar gang“, taken from court documents, to describe the same people who are accused of stealing the $2.7 million. 

Reporting stories on crime and corruption for years and then seeing action finely being taken is satisfying although it would have been better if authorities acted earlier.

The start of 2025 will be huge for all media, including KCA, as the federal election is due by May and could possibly be earlier in March or April.

So, I’ll just take a couple of weeks off and be back around Monday the 6th of January 2025 and likely start off doing mostly videos for the first week or so to catch up with videos I already have in the pipeline.
