The stakes for Rupert Murdoch have gone up a few notches in the defamation case instituted by his puppet Ofir Birenbaum, known as the “Undercover Jew”, against Cairo Takeaway who have now countersued for trespass.
Murdoch’s News Corp, management and journalists were always going to be key witnesses as they organised the “Undercover Jew” media sting, and while News Corp isn’t being sued, any judgment against Ofir Birenbaum for trespass could have serious ramifications for Murdoch’s News Corp.

I published an article on the 10th of August 2025 titled “Rupert Murdoch’s “Undercover Jew” scandal hits the Federal Court” which starts off:
Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp tried to stir up trouble by sending “Undercover Jewish man Ofir Birenbaum” to Egyptian cafe, Cairo Takeaway, in Sydney’s Newtown in February 2025, wearing a cap with the Star of David on it and a Star of David pendant.
Ofir Birenbaum filed a defamation claim in the Federal Court of Australia against Cairo Takeaway, owner Hesham El Masry and staff member Talaat Yehia, on Tuesday the 5th of August 2025, over Instagram posts in February 2025 about the incident.

Mr Birenbaum’s defamation claim will drag in News Corp’s management and journalists, as they are the ones who organised the “Undercover Jew” media sting, which is proven by leaked News Corp computer files, as per below.
The Crikey website broke key details of the story in an article published on the 14th of February 2025 titled “Inside News Corp’s backfired ‘UNDERCOVERJEW’ operation” which starts off:
A News Corp operation sending an “undercover Jewish man” to a popular Egyptian cafe this week backfired when staff called the police following an altercation with Daily Telegraph journalists.
Internal files seen by Crikey show the outlet planned to use covert video-recording eyewear in the making of the story, which it internally named “UNDERCOVERJEW” and sketched out a week in advance. (Click here to read more)

The counterclaim of trespassing
The Guardian reported on the 25th of November 2025:
An Egyptian restaurant in Sydney is countersuing a pro-Israel activist over a News Corp stunt, alleging he trespassed on the popular eatery in a bid to get a “negative reaction” from staff.
and:
In documents filed to the federal court on Friday, seen by Guardian Australia, the restaurant’s lawyers say they did not permit Birenbaum or journalists from the Daily Telegraph on to the premises to “covertly film” an interaction or “ambush staff members”.
The restaurant claimed Birenbaum’s true purpose in entering the premises was to produce an “angry or negative reaction from staff”, covertly film the interaction for publication, “ambush” staff once they had a reaction, and/or “seek to cause harm to the cross-claimant by portraying the Cairo Takeaway, its owner, and its staff as being antisemitic”.
The restaurant is claiming loss and damage and exemplary damages, pointing to “the disgraceful and outrageous attempt to increase social division by entering a pro-Palestinian premises wearing a cap that resembles the Israeli flag with a Daily Telegraph camera crew waiting outside.”
The restaurant is alleging they were targeted because of the restaurant’s “pro-Palestinian” stance. (Click here to read more)
I don’t know much about trespassing law but one thing that would have to be in Cairo Takeaway’s favour would be the fact that Ofir Birenbaum posted video of himself online doing almost the exact same thing where he is showing off an Israeli flag to Palestinian protesters trying to cause trouble.
In December 2024 Ofir Birenbaum held an Israeli flag opposite a pro-Palestine protest and he was marched away by police for antagonising the protesters a per the below video.

Ofir Birenbaum claimed he didn’t have a recording of the Cairo takeaway incident. His equipment didn’t have any issues when he was secretly recording a police officer at the Technion event and trying to provoke protestors with his Israeli flag. Here’s a shot from across the road.

Mr Ofir Birenbaum will have some questions to answer, under oath, about where is the video from his glasses at the Cairo Takeaway and if he claims he doesn’t have any he should be reminded he is “under oath” and the potential consequences of perjury. One has to suspect the video would be very telling and unhelpful to Ofir Birenbaum’s defamation claim. (Click here to read more)
Closing arguments
The chances of Ofir Birenbaum winning his defamation case are very low and I have to wonder who is funding his case, especially given it is such a weak case.
While Cairo Takeaway did take down a couple of social media posts and apologise to some degree to Ofir Birenbaum that was done to avoid a court case, not an admission of guilt.
If Ofir Birenbaum loses his defamation case and/or the trespassing case, then that potentially opens up legal options for Cairo Takeaway to sue News Corp.
For example, if Ofir Birenbaum is found by the court to have trespassed at the Cairo Takeaway to cause trouble then it won’t be hard for Cairo Takeaway to file a new claim against News Corp, it’s journalist and photographers.
Every time someone takes a stand against corruption and abuses of the law it shows battles can be fought and won. And even if they are not won, they help shine a light on the corruption and abuses of law.

What a trouble making creep that guy is – just like the old lizard who employs him.
It’s a shame we allowed the Murdoch empire control our country, did he ever compensate the tens of thousands of workers sacked when he virtually forced the closure of our local papers.
The old divide and conquer. Real men and women know the score these days more and more. A group of criminals playing games of inversion. Nothing to do with religion, apart from the deceitful tactics of war, for the continuation of the (self – consent and coercion Libertarian Paternalist) lucrative slave trade. It is all business law. Vienna con vention 1986 et al. I believe that statutory laws depend upon constitutional law for their very existence when it comes to men and women. And without allegiance given to same, governments have no actual instrumental authority to create statutory acts. Am I correct? However, global corporate business laws of slavery will most assuredly provide comfort to the said conspirator who visited this presumably decent man’s business. But even seeing more and more “get-away-with-its” is sometimes more helpful in waking everyone up – so we all change the system, or at least sack the custodians of it perhaps so we can model it better? Men and women make systems. Men and women can change systems.
Absolutely appalling. This isn’t journalism – it’s a cynical, orchestrated stunt designed to provoke, humiliate, and manufacture outrage. News Corp and its operatives thought they could sneak into a small business, exploit a pro-Palestinian stance, and smear people for clicks. That’s not reporting, that’s harassment.
Ofir Birenbaum may be the face of this fiasco, but the real responsibility lies with the executives and journalists who planned it. Every detail – from the “Undercover Jew” operation to the covert filming – screams manipulation, moral bankruptcy, and contempt for ordinary Australians trying to run a business in peace.
If this doesn’t end in accountability, it sets a terrifying precedent: that media power can be abused with impunity to intimidate, target, and weaponize identity against people. SHAME!

When I initially read this piece, the first thing that came to mind was that it must be a ‘slow news’ day/week/month! I guess the ‘old lizard’ (as one of your commentors referred to him), has far too much money, even more free time and an ever boundless array of manipulation tactics. This speaks of a desperate and sad man!
Can’t say I’m looking forward to updates on this topic, but I do appreciate your work!

“Caught out, in the act of creating, actually manipulating, “Making the news”, not reporting it. As Murdoch’s and other RW media have been doing for decades. Most of the bias extreme RW media in this country is nothing more than contrived divisive opinion presented as news for vested interests. The other MSM, politicians and general public, have been terrified of these Jewish operatives for decades all knowing full well their modus operandi. We all saw the orchestrated almost “Monty Pythonist”, “Dark ages like attack” on Antoinette Lattouf at the ABC. When the completely out of depth gutless Morrison appointed management simply caved in to the what were empty threats by these lobbyist operatives.
