How alleged paedophile Alan Jones has been protected by the old media for decades

The ABC has decided not to publish an unauthorised biography of Alan Jones because Jones’s lawyers have threatened to sue, the book’s author, Chris Masters, says.

ABC Enterprises released a statement, announcing it would not proceed with publication of the book Jonestown, which was conceived following a Four Corners episode in May 2002 by Masters.

ABC Enterprises director Robyn Watts said the decision not to proceed was made on purely commercial grounds.” ABC Enterprises has a clear responsibility to deliver a commercial return to the ABC,” Ms Watts said.

“To proceed with publication will almost certainly result in a commercial loss, which would be irresponsible.” But Masters said the real reason was that Jones had threatened to sue over the book.

“The commercial reasons are legal reasons,” Masters told AAP. “Essentially the way it was explained to me is that Jones’s lawyers sent a letter. “(The ABC) say … the letter we got from Jones’s lawyers in the last week or so made it clear that he was going to sue and it would cost money.”

Mr Masters suggested the decision was made after political interference from the board. (Click here to read more)

Chris masters took his book Jonestown and had it published elsewhere. Wikipedia says: “The ABC’s decision not to publish the book delayed its release by less than three months; publisher Allen & Unwin Australia released it in October 2006. The book sold 12,700 copies and earned almost A$600,000 in its first six days after publication—placing it at the top of the bestseller list for its category.” (Click here to read more)

At no stage did the old media run articles that highlighted Alan Jones grooming of schoolboys that was exposed in the book. The SMH did publish an extract of the book and published some of the parts that showed blatant grooming, but they didn’t call it grooming so it didn’t get the focus it should have.

Some other media like The Australian published articles attacking the book and defending Alan Jones. Wikipedia says: “In a sharply critical review published in The Australian, David Flint says that “Masters is entitled to investigate and challenge Jones’s influence and role, but he is not entitled to intrude into his private life based on purloined correspondence, amateur psychoanalysis and irresponsible journalism.” (Click here to read more)

I started this website in January 2011, and I didn’t know about Alan Jones background or what was written in Jonestown but by May 2015 I had become aware and the gravity of it so I published an article titled “2GB’s Alan Jones sent love letters to a school boy. Why has he never been charged with grooming?” which starts off:

Sydney radio station 2GB’s Alan Jones sent love letters to schoolboys, had boys in his room late at night and perved on them in the shower when he was a teacher at The King’s School in Sydney in the early 1970’s. This behaviour led to Alan Jones’ forced resignation in 1973.

That type of conduct would be considered grooming today and the police would be called for sure. And if it was anyone but Alan Jones the matter of the forced resignation by The King’s School would have been given a start at the current Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Extract as written in the SMH regarding Alan Jones time teaching at The King’s School 1970-73:

“By 1973 Alan’s impassioned support of some and lack of empathy for others became too great an issue to be ignored. There was deepening anxiety about continued late-night excursions to Jones’s room. Chris Simkin was often in the room with Alan until late at night. “I was in there for hours. The door was never locked.” Simkin says they used to watch The Ernie Sigley Show on television.”

“Scott Walker, another constant visitor, began to feel violated. “If you had muscle strain he would insist on strapping your legs. He would take you into the shower and tell you to take your clothes off. I was shattered with awkwardness. It was weird and uncomfortable and seemed voyeuristic.”

“Housemate Brian Porter says: “I never saw a breach of fiduciary duty. I never saw evidence of predatory behaviour. But he was manipulative and voyeuristic. He would love watching athletes on television and film. He saw the beauty of the human form in full flight. He loved the strength, the freshness and the vitality of boys.”

“Disquiet about Jones’s attachment to some boys grew during a term break when one of the masters found a letter, written by Jones to a boy, that had been left behind in a classroom desk. In it Alan spoke of thinking about the boy late at night, expressing his love. While love letters to boys were hardly appropriate, neither were they regarded as smoking gun evidence of misbehaviour.” (Click here to read more)

If a teacher had children is his room late at night on a regular basis nowadays the school would have no choice but to ring the police. The police would also need to be called if a teacher was sending love letters to schoolboys and making boys take their clothes off to shower so the teacher could have a perve.

Alan Jones has never answered the allegations made against him while he was a teacher at The King’s School. A Sydney school teacher was charged with child grooming this week. So why not Alan Jones? Or at least the Royal Commission should investigate given it involves a school cover-up. (Click here to read the full article)

Different journalists analyse information differently and/or are prepared to write what they see. What Chris Masters book Jonestown exposed was that Alan Jones was a paedophile who groomed schoolboys when he was a teacher at The Kings School in the 1970’s. And it needs to be written in that way so there could be no doubt which is what I did in my 2015 article.

After I published the 2015 article it got a lot of traction and every time Alan Jones received media attention the article would take off again with the link to the article being shared on social media. After I published the article, I had people contacting me with more information about Alan Jones.

I published an article in June 2016 titled “Alan Jones is under investigation by NSW Police for statutory rape of boys in the 1980’s” which starts off:

Fairfax Media’s 2GB radio host Alan Jones is under investigation by the NSW Police for the statutory rape of underage boys in the 1980’s. I have raised the issue with Fairfax Media, the ABC Board and the Prime Minister’s office and I am still awaiting responses.

One specific complaint to the police is by a man (Victim A) who says when he was an underage boy in the 1980’s he was picked up by Alan Jones at a place known as The Wall in Sydney and Mr Jones paid him for sex. The Wall is in Darlinghurst Road Sydney and has been a known pick-up place for male prostitutes “rentboys” (many of them underage) since the 1960’s.

The allegation by Victim A is similar with the fact that Alan Jones was arrested in a UK toilet in 1988 for “outraging public decency” and ‘committing an indecent act’ with another man as per the above 1988 newspaper front page.

Will Nine Entertainment pay compensation

Nine Entertainment, after merging with Fairfax Media in 2018, is now the parent company of Sydney radio station 2gb so could be liable for compensation to the men who were sexually harassed and/or assaulted by Alan Jones at 2gb.

The email I sent above to the then Fairfax Media CEO Greg Hywood and General Counsel Gail Hambly I believe draws a line in the sand as to when management knew about the allegations and had a responsibility in the investigate and/or act against Alan Jones for his conduct at 2gb. CEO Greg Hywood and General Counsel Gail Hambly never responded to my email which suggests they took no action.

The article written by journalist Kate McClymont raises the question of who knew what and when. McClymont’s boss Bevan Shields expressly said that in another column: “One of the biggest questions emerging from McClymont’s investigation is how many people knew about Jones’ alleged predilections and remained silent.”

In another section of McClymont’s article it says: “What also makes Webster angry is that at staff functions other senior colleagues had seen the young man’s acute embarrassment as Jones allegedly groped his penis under the table. “And then afterward – and this stuff made me angry – they would take the piss out of what just happened. Like, ‘Oh, did you enjoy that?’”

That shows “senior colleagues” at 2gb knew about the sexual assaults but did nothing, except increase the trauma by making jokes of the assault, which makes 2gb and it’s parent Nine Entertainment financially liable for compensation.

But will Kate McClymont investigate staff, her bosses and former bosses at Nine Entertainment, such as former Fairfax Media CEO Greg Hywood and former General Counsel Gail Hambly for the cover-up? Of course she won’t as management would not allow her to as it could help expose Nine Entertainment and her bosses and former bosses to lawsuits from at least some of the 4 men she wrote about, and possibly others, being sexually assaulted by Alan Jones.

So, Kate McClymont and Nine Entertainment will self-censor their own “scoop” to conceal from the public the full story which is the decades long cover-up to protect Alan Jones.

If management know the rumours and deliberately don’t investigate, because they don’t want to know the truth, then they won’t get evidence and that makes them complicit in the crimes.
