Corruption at the National Anti-Corruption Commission should be front and centre during the federal election campaign but it isn’t because it leads straight back to the dirty deal between Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and opposition leader Peter Dutton to corrupt the NACC.
The Labor Party and the Liberal Party / National Party coalition have not mentioned the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) once during the election campaign and it’s no surprise given how openly corrupt the NACC is and how much on the nose with voters it is.
Below is a video of the NACC management being questioned by the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee at parliament on Thursday the 27th of March 2025.
NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton failed to show up and left it up the NACC CEO Philip Reed to take the heat.
What made the NACC Commissioner Brereton’s non-attendance worse is the fact that the heads of other government departments such as the AFP’s Commissioner Reece Kershaw and Director-General of Security and head of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) Mike Burgess showed up when it was their turn to give evidence before the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee.
Brereton’s non-attendance I suspect was related to the latest media reporting about his conflict of interest and personal interest in complaints before the NACC and Brereton would have known he would be asked about it at the parliamentary hearing and took a sickie I suspect.

At the 5-minute mark in the above video Senator David Shoebridge asked questions about the NACC’s secret hearings unless there are exceptional circumstances. In 33 current investigations and 7 finalised investigations the NACC has never found any exceptional circumstances to justify any public hearings.
Compare that to the NSW ICAC that has 100% of their corruption hearings in public which I previously wrote about in October 2022 in an article titled “Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus cooks the books to justify secret hearings at the National Anti-Corruption Commission and video you won’t see at a Federal ICAC” and as per the below video:

In the first video Senator David Shoebridge also asked questions about Commissioner Paul Brereton’s conflict of interest in deciding NACC corruption complaints when the Australian Defence Force is involved given Brereton’s position in the ADF reserves as a Major General.
The ABC published an article on the 23rd of March titled “Integrity watchdog boss steps aside from six defence investigations” which starts off:
The head of the National Anti-Corruption Commission continues to hold senior roles in the Army Reserves, raising fresh questions about perceptions of neutrality as the watchdog probes a $45 billion federal defence contract.
Six months after an unintentional misconduct finding was made against Paul Brereton over a Robodebt referral, the NACC has confirmed the commissioner is self-managing potential conflict of interest issues if and when they arise.
When contacted by the ABC the NACC did not detail whether Mr Brereton had stepped away from a referral regarding the navy’s $45b Hunter frigate project, but confirmed he had recused himself from six defence matters to avoid any perceptions of bias.
Federal crossbenchers — including Greens senator David Shoebridge and Independent MP Helen Haines — have flagged issues with the integrity body since its inception in July 2023 and are pushing for increased transparency in the next term of parliament.
Those concerns ratcheted up last year after the watchdog’s oversight body found Mr Brereton unintentionally engaged in “officer misconduct” by not entirely removing himself from deliberations about whether to investigate the so-called Robodebt six despite declaring a “close association” with a person involved. The ABC article above, published on the 23rd of March, put NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton on notice what he would be asked about at the parliamentary hearing on the 27th of March, in the first video above, and he obviously decided there was too much heat in the kitchen and that is why didn’t show up.
NACC has failed to deliver
NACC has been in operation for 21 months and its biggest corruption finding is against NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton when he was found guilty of “officer misconduct”.
It must also be remembered that the Inspector of the NACC Gail Furness SC rigged the investigation into Brereton and the NACC’s Robodebt cover-up to make sure the only finding was against Brereton and could only be that he made a mistake in law or fact.
I broke the story of Inspector of the NACC Gail Furness SC protecting Paul Brereton and I published an article in November 2024 with the evidence titled “NACC Inspector Gail Furness muzzled former judge Alan Robertson to protect Paul Brereton and others from criminal charges” and as per the below video:

Current NACC investigations
In the first video above the NACC CEO says they have “8 current investigations that involve one or more former or current politicians”.
That means there are more than 8 former or current politicians being investigated. For all we know there could be 20 or 30 former or current politicians being investigated in the “8 current investigations”.
Another possibility is there is 1 MP in all 8 investigations and in 1 investigation there is a second MP. I think that would be the least plausible scenario. But the fact we need to guess is scandalous as we have a right to know.
If there are current politicians under investigation, who are running again at the May election, we have a right to know who they are as it would go to their suitability as a politician, at least in some voters’ minds. That is something that should be tested in the High Court of Australia.
I wonder how many of the 8 are Labor, Liberal or Nationals? And is Magic Pete on the list for the $532 million Paladin and $1.8 billion Construct frauds and thefts?
The fact that neither Prime Minister Anthony Albanese nor opposition leader Peter Dutton have mentioned the NACC during the campaign is admission they know it is a dud, and it is on the nose with voters and any mention of the NACC will cost them votes.

This is a very relevant article, especially if, as you wrote, there are politicians under investigation who are running again. I used to have respect for Dreyfus but not any more. And this is all a very poor reflection on Labor. The whole federal NACC is a total waste of money.
It seems to me, that the NACC was always intended to be corrupted, run by a corrupt person, and become a pollie protection racket. I ask…why did Albanese even consult with Dutton on the NACC?
How can some politicians move on to very highly paid positions when they have these matters hanging over their heads? Politicians should declare that an inquiry is in progress when they nominate for re-election. They should be required to have a regular police clearance & working with children check.
Now if you were to find out and publish the names of those involved that WOULD be a public service.
At this point, it seems like the NACC is more interested in secret meetings than actually holding anyone accountable. Maybe they’re just trying to keep the corruption industry in business! With all these closed-door investigations, the only thing we’re getting transparency on is how well they can hide the truth.
It’s starting to feel like the only thing ‘national’ about the Anti-Corruption Commission is its ability to protect the very people it’s supposed to investigate. The public deserves more than a game of cloak and dagger – voters have every right to know who’s being investigated, especially with the upcoming election. If the NACC is so committed to cleaning up corruption, why does it insist on working in the shadows like a poorly run conspiracy theory rather than a legitimate body that’s supposed to safeguard public trust?
In the end, it’s hard to feel anything but total distrust in an organisation that’s more interested in maintaining its secrets than serving the public. And let’s not even get started on the two major parties, who seem completely content to let the NACC stumble along with its incompetence.
Neither Labor nor the Liberals have shown any real interest in changing the operational guidelines to ensure full transparency. At this rate, it’s as if they’re all in on the same game – one that conveniently keeps the public in the dark while they continue to play their part in the political theatre.”
The NACC needs to be disbanded & reformed with non partisan members
I have just published a video on this matter with more details titled “Which politicians are being investigated by the NACC?” here: https://youtu.be/JIHuSGiad9E
shows that at the top level neither Labor nor LNP leadership can be trusted. Secrets in NACC confirms that both are not to be trusted.
Whatever happened to the investigation into the dodgy Paladin contracts? (On Duttons watch)
Why was the drug dealer awaiting deportation on Christmas Is 5 years ago suddenly allowed to stay (Duttons watch again). The approach to corruption is to keep quiet about it and hope people will forget. Pathetic
Why hasn’t Paul Brereton been stood down? Incredible,
