Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has used up a lot of political capital trying to silence the public and limit what information the public can and can’t know.
The reason Albanese does that is because he can control the old media in Canberra for a number of reasons, which I wrote about a few weeks ago, but Albanese can’t control most independent media and social media users, but Albanese would love to be able to and won’t stop trying.
What has Albanese and the Labor Party got to hide? It must be a lot given he is prepared to damage his long-term reputation, credibility and legacy as Prime Minister.
Background
The main current example of Albanese’s and Labor’s information control on the public is the Labor Party’s proposed changes to the Freedom of Information (FOI) laws which are “designed make it harder to obtain government documents under FOI laws which has the effect of reducing government accountability”.
A previous example of Albanese and Labor trying to silence and control what voters know, before the proposed FOI law changes, was the 2023/2024 attempt by Albanese and Labor to introduce the Misinformation and Disinformation laws “to hold digital platforms to account for harmful misinformation and disinformation online.”
Albanese and Labor made sure that politicians and media were exempt from the proposed laws. While they wanted to “hold digital platforms to account” they didn’t want to be held to account themselves.
In November 2024 Albanese and Labor “dumped its controversial misinformation and disinformation bill, conceding there is “no pathway” to getting the proposal passed through the Senate.”
The Labor Party could have gone to the May 2025 federal election with the misinformation and disinformation bill as one of its policies but chose not to. It points to the real reason it was dumped was because of the public backlash, which shows the power the public has, and most of that backlash was on social media.
Albanese and Labor trying again with the FOI laws
Albanese is prepared to damage his reputation, and lose votes, because he knows voter knowledge is the greatest threat to his Prime Ministership especially given his major political threat, the Liberal / National Party coalition, is in the middle of a civil war.
The latest evidence of the coalition’s civil war hit the media on Friday (17/10/25) with the National Party’s former leader Barnaby Joyce reportedly considering jumping ship and joining Pauline Hanson’s One Nation.
If Joyce does jump ship to join Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, I think it will end the same as former Labor leader Mark Latham’s time as a One Nation MP with Joyce resigning at some point.
Latest reports say Joyce has declared “he will not recontest his seat of New England at the next election”. That leaves open Joyce running for the Senate again but this time as a One Nation candidate which he would likely win a Senate seat.
The point about Joyce is that it is small piece of evidence, that is part of a truck load of evidence, that shows the Liberal / National Party coalition will struggle to survive.
That is why Albanese and the Labor Party are more focused on their biggest threat which is independent media and social media users freely communicating online about the failings of the government.
What we can do
The motivation for writing this article is because some people write in comments on social media that there is nothing we can do about corrupt governments. Some of the people who write that are trolls from the government trying to silence dissent while others genuinely believe that there is nothing we can do.
If there was nothing we could do, then Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Labor Party wouldn’t be trashing their own reputations by trying to pass such dishonest laws.
What Albanese and Labor are confirming by trying to pass dodgy and dishonest laws like the proposed new FOI laws and misinformation and disinformation laws is that minor political parties, independent MPs, independent media and social media users are a threat to corrupt governments.
If we are a threat to corrupt governments, which Albanese and Labor have in effect confirmed, then we must be heading in the right direction and be doing something right.
That is why sharing articles and videos from independent media is so important. It helps keep corrupt governments accountable. The more people who share articles and videos on their social media accounts the more everyone is empowered to hold corrupt governments to account.
At some stage soon most of the old media, as we now know it, will be gone which means now is the time to start driving and supporting independent media which you can do by sharing on your social media accounts.
If you are having a bad day, instead of saying there is nothing we can do about government corruption, jump on “X” (formerly twitter) or Facebook and send Albanese and Labor messages saying you aren’t going to take their corruption anymore and link an article or video from an independent journalist.
An example is the message below I sent to Anthony Albanese on “X” (Twitter) on Thursday (16/10/25): (Click here to see on “X”)

People can say my above message to Anthony Albanese on “X” (Twitter) doesn’t achieve anything. Any given message might not achieve anything, but all messages and articles by independent journalists and social media users combined achieves a lot and that is why Anthony Albanese and the Labor Party want to stop us.
The bottom line is when someone says there is nothing we can do about corrupt governments, ignore them because they are wrong, and Albanese’s and Labor’s actions trying to silence us proves they are wrong.

There is definitely something afoot with Albanese and his Labor Party. I’d love to know what it is. The only thing that occurs to me is the possibility that with the massive amount of money that has already been virtually thrown at America over the AUKUS deal, is that pollies of both persuasions are syphoning off money. The NACC is a waste of time and effort, so they won’t investigate anything.
That I believe both sides could be involved with this AUKUS money wastage, protects both sides. Have we ever seen a receipt for the $800 million already paid?
STOP HIDING INFORMATION ALBO. AUKUS MUST GO ITS USELESS & WE CANT AFFORD IT I’M WITH PAUL ALL THE WAY
The best way to get rid of corrupt governments is at the ballot box at the next Federal Election, unless Labor have corrupted the elections also.
Then again history has always shown when a party governs for one term they are feeling their way, the second term they become conceited and over confident in a bold and cheeky way, the third term they become arrogant and presumptuous and they believe in their own self importance individually, which becomes their downfall.
Albanese is in his second term and he certainly has become conceited and over confident!
I have little faith in most politicians, secretive ones I have no faith in at all. The one good thing about our electoral system, is the fact it allows us to pick the best of a poor, very poor lot.
I hear you completely jonangel – secretive politicians are a huge problem. Take Andrew Hastie, the Member for Canning, for example. Trying to get a response from him on a genuine electorate issue is like banging your head against a brick wall – letters ignored, discussion requests dismissed.
It’s astonishing how someone elected to represent the people can be so completely inaccessible. Moments like these make it painfully clear that our “choice” in elections often comes down to picking the least obstructive option rather than a truly accountable representative.
Independent media, social pressure, and public scrutiny are the only ways we get a glimpse behind that curtain of secrecy.
Australia was a largely empty land which made colonial seizure and commercial exploitation fairly easy, a British empire outpost overseen by a handful of empire appointees. The result was the Rum Corps which we never got over. The country has always been the insider few at the top against the impoverished many and with easy wealth for a long time the government never had to legislate on human rights for all or government accountability mechanisms. We are now paying the price for that sustained policy failure. The ruling class remedies have consisted largely in favourable business and tax concessions to Conservative sectional groups. Howard was the worst with generous tax deductibility on investment properties, a yearly bribe to property owners to keep voting Liberal-National. He essentially gave government wealth away in return for office and Labor had to rubber stamp these bribes just to get and stay in office. Established Conservative interests have been looting the country for decades. There is no easy fix but tax reform to claw back losses is the only way forward.
I particularly like the sentence about his credibility. Satire at it’ finest.
Albanese’s obsession with controlling information isn’t subtle – it’s brazened. His proposed FOI changes and the earlier misinformation laws weren’t about “protecting the public,” they were about protecting himself and his party from scrutiny. The fact that he’s willing to trash his own credibility to shield government failings shows exactly how threatened he is by independent media and social discussion.
We shouldn’t see this as discouraging – it’s proof that holding power to account works. Every article shared, every post questioning government actions, chips away at secrecy. Albanese’s fear is our opportunity: transparency is a threat to corrupt governance, and the more we fight for it, the harder it becomes for them to operate in the shadows.
Kudos to KCA for continuing to publish fearless, independent reporting. Your work is essential for keeping government accountable, and it’s greatly appreciated.
Coming from a left voting family dating back to the 1800s, I am disgusted and more particularly FRIGHTENED at the actions of the Albanese Labor government.
Corruption cover up can be the only reason for government actions /proposed actions.
A REAL WORRY. A man who has been a politician for 30 odd years and NEVER held a job. Obviously no experience of the “real world” so has a need to protect his bullying actions.
