Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said to Australians and the rest of the world, with the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog, that Australia does not care about Israel committing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
There is zero net benefit for Herzog’s visit to Australia because any benefit to Australia’s small Jewish population will be greatly outweighed by the disgust by many Australians, including many Jews, for supporting Israels genocide with Herzog’s Australian visit.
Israel will use President Isaac Herzog’s visit to Australia for global propaganda and to put pressure on other countries to support Israel. That to some degree makes Australia complicit in what Israel is doing in Gaza.
Legal opinion in relation to Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s visit to Australia

Chris Sidoti published an opinion piece in The Guardian on the 5/2/26 titled “Isaac Herzog is accused of inciting genocide in Gaza. He shouldn’t be welcomed to Australia” which starts off:
Anthony Albanese should recognise he made a terrible mistake in inviting the Israeli president to Australia and put a stop to this divisive political visit.
It’s not too late for Anthony Albanese to withdraw the invitation to the Israeli president, Isaac Herzog. It should be withdrawn for three reasons.
The international court of justice has found that Israel unlawfully occupies the Palestinian territories, has unlawfully purported to annex parts of the Palestinian territories and unlawfully plants, encourages and maintains unlawful settlements in Palestinian territories. The court is also trying a case in which Israel is accused of genocide.
The international criminal court has issued arrest warrants against the Israeli prime minister and former defence minister, citing allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity. The same court is investigating other senior Israeli military and political leaders on similar charges.
The UN commission of inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory has found evidence of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocidal intent by Israeli leaders and recommended their prosecution. Israel is a rogue state whose head of state, its supreme representative, should not be permitted to visit Australia.

I am so totally unimpressed with our federal government. Its as though we have a pseudo Coalition in charge. Albanese really does seem to be moving way over the central line to the right. Yes, he’s governing for all, but his support of Zionist Jews, a powerful lobby group, is particularly sickening. I feel very sorry for the Judaism Jews because the Zionists are awakening antisemitism in Australia and the Judaism Jews will be targeted too.
While it’s just dumb and divisive of Albanese to allow these manipulative Zionists to invite Herzog to Australia. What the hell was Minns thinking, along with the police command that completely lost control of police hot heads that turned Sydney into Minneapolis. Why cant the huge majority exercise their rights to march and protest the Gaza genocide on our streets of Sydney. What difference would it have made for the march, we all know nothing would have happened, like all the other peaceful marches they have attempted to prevent? The Labor party should seriously remind Minns he serves at their pleasure and be considering the removal of both Minns and immediate removal of whomever it was that lost control of police command and all of those completely out of control “police” thugs that pepper sprayed and viciously assaulted people in Sydney? There crimes are all on film. Get these thugs out of the force! And whats with the moustaches on all the police thugs that were filmed assaulting people, is it a Neanderthal police sub species?

Genius set-up! Premier Minns creates the conditions for inevitable conflict then calls it an “impossible situation” for police (poor mites), who are thus forced against their better selves to pepper spray people and indulge in violence of various kinds to control protestors.
What’s morally indefensible – and needing no cameras to prove, however – is the egregious language used by president of the Zionist Federation of Australia, Jeremy Liebler, in his speech introducing Herzog the Horrible at an event at the International Convention Centre (while also commending Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for inviting Herzog).
It seems it was an opportunity for Liebler (hereafter referred to as The Libeller)to libel the 1000 signatories to the Jewish Council of Australia’s petition saying NO to Herzog, very many Jewish Australians, plus all the rest of us saying NO to Israel’s war crimes (including the ICJ) as “antisemites”, by not merely linking a perceived tolerance for antisemitism in Australian society to the causes of the Bondi massacre, but specifically targeting “respectable” cultural demographics:
“Here in Australia, we have watched antisemitism creep from the fringe into respectable spaces – into academia, the arts and progressive circles – where our fear is mocked, our history denied, and our right to self-determination put on trial. In 2026, the respectable way to express antisemitism is through the demonisation of Israel. When Israel is smeared as uniquely evil, ‘Zionist’ becomes a safe word for Jew. That is why false accusation of genocide and apartheid are not legitimate critique. They are a verdict. A moral inversion designed to strip Jews of legitimacy and turn Jewish survival into a crime. Bondi reminded us what happens when hatred is tolerated in polite society. It metastasises and destroys from within.”
Nice one. The Libeller can freely incite on behalf of Herzog the Horrible – who can stick to the ‘apolitical’, neutral language of a statesman – to state unequivocally that critics of Israel (i.e. of Israel’s conduct of its genocidal war in Gaza against Palestinians) across the Australian community (e.g., “academia, the arts and progressive circles”) are not only tolerant of antisemitism but are “antisemites”.
By remarking that “Zionist becomes a safe word for Jew”, he reduces anti-Zionist/anti-Israel political critiques by Australians to antisemitism and furthermore reduces and diminishes genuine protest to pretexts for antisemitic (hate) speech. This is a blatant and provocative lie.
Undaunted by ethics or political constraints, The Libeller freely libelled us all; by labelling as “antisemitic” Australian academics, artists, and progressives he proceeds to state publicly his outrageous conclusion that our cultural communities (read ‘woke’ lefties) created the conditions for the Bondi massacre by means of their anti-Zionism/antisemitism, and – wait for it – are thereby responsible for it.
This is 100% Trumpism, where our streets and our freedom to protest are being violated by our very own mini-versions of ICE (Special Powers).
And I hold Albanese responsible for this divisive fiasco.
He must either answer for it or step down.

This is a very thought-provoking post, KCA. It certainly expresses a point of view that seems to lack exposure in most of Australia’s mainstream media. Personally, I was a bit skeptical when I first read your current post. I wondered what on earth prompted you to offer such an anti-Israel perspective. So I embarked on my own internet research that sought to answer the question: “Is Israel really committing genocide, or is it merely defending itself?” And I was quite surprised by what I found. Although there is intense international legal and political dispute over whether Israel is, or is not, committing genocide, the issue is by no means clear cut. Based on the available evidence, a solid case can be mounted that Israel is indeed committing genocide in Gaza. I think this would come as a surprise to the majority of Australians. It definitely came as a surprise to me. Thank you for your article! It is a shame your perspective is not given wider exposure in Australia if for no other reason than balanced debate..
Herzog abandoned any pretence that his visit was apolitical and a mere display of mourning and condolence. Speaking at Sydney’s International Convention Centre, he blamed opponents of the war crimes in Gaza for the Bondi attack. Alongside Zionist leaders he characterized “genocide” and “apartheid” charges levelled against Israel as “anti-Semitic”. Unabashed endorsement of the Zionist genocide and land theft program.
If only the world was so simple as to have a black and white scenario where all the evil was on one side and all the pristine virtue was on the other side.
Have the Israelis done bad things, yes. Have the Hamas forces done bad things, yes.
Does either side have a greater right to the moral high ground, questionable.
I do not have any great hope that the Middle east will ever find peace regardless of the actions or inactions of a protest movement or government on the other side of the world. The post WW2 debacle is only another chapter in the wars of many centuries and generations of hate between religious fanatics who will settle for nothing less than total annihilation of their sworn enemies.

Herzog claimed he was signing a ‘smokescreen shell’ as if that is a minor ordinance.
‘Smokescreen shell’ is the euphemistic name for a white phosphorous bomb but I haven’t been able to confirm that is what it was. The IDF are using them as illegal air bursts in civilian areas, another war crime.
