Angus Taylor is predicted to be voted in as leader of the Liberal Party at their scheduled meeting at 9am (Canberra time) on Friday (13/2/26) which will also make him leader of the Liberal Party / National Party coalition.
But the winner between Angus Taylor and current Liberal Party leader Sussan Ley doesn’t matter because they won’t be leader for more than 12 months as neither can stop the current spiral downwards the Liberal Party is in.
Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was at Parliament house this week as per the below video, and he pointed out what everyone knows and that is the Liberal Party is in a death spiral because they are in effect controlled by Rupert Murdoch’s Sky News and their extremist views.
If you are going to appeal to extreme views to are going to appeal to less and less voters.
When Rupert Murdoch was running News Corp and wielding his influence over the Liberal Party for decades it helped the Liberal Party because Murdoch’s media had strong influence over voters.
But times have changed.
Lachlan Murdoch now runs News Corp, and they no longer have strong influence over voters except for Sky News’ small audience.
But for some unknown reason the Liberal Party politicians, and National Party politicians, jump to the tune of Sky News and their small audience as Malcolm Turnbull points out in the above video.
Malcom Turnbull’s view is consistent with others in the Liberal Party.
In May 2025 I published an article quoting Tony Barry who is a former Liberal Party strategist and he said:
Liberal Party branch members love “Sky after Dark” on Sky News, it’s their newsletter. Sky after Dark are incredibly influential over Liberal Party pre-selections and via the Liberal Party membership.
Liberal MP’s therefor watch “Sky after Dark” so see what their branch members are being told which again reinforces how influential “Sky after Dark” is and it drives how the Liberal Party members vote.
And that influences Liberal Party pre-selections and the quality of people they can choose. (Click here for the full video)
The challenge to Sussan Ley’s leadership has been on the cards for months and I think many people, including myself, were expecting Andrew Hastie to be the next Liberal Party leader.
If Angus Taylor does win the leadership as predicted he will only be a seat warmer for Andrew Hastie, or someone else, as Taylor has way too much baggage and dirty laundry and he does not have the communication skills or competency to do any better than Sussan Ley.
As I wrote a couple of weeks ago, this is the great political reset we need to have,
“There will be no return to the glory days for the federal Liberal Party / National Party coalition as they don’t have anyone of real calibre to lead them out of the wilderness that they are stuck in.”
The Labor Party’s problem
While the Liberal Party / National Party coalition is on the nose with their own supporters, who are jumping ship at a rapid pace, they are aren’t going to the Labor Party.
No one on social media is saying what a great job the Labor Party are doing, except for Labor Party trolls.
Even Labor Party supporters are extremely critical of the Labor Party for many policy failings such as AUKUS, the NACC, cost of living, housing crisis and the President Herzog visit etc. And that is why none of the voters who are deserting the coalition are going to Labor and that should be of great concern for everyone in the Labor Party.
That means minor parties and independents, whose vote has been slowing growing for decades, are in for huge growth, and possibly their biggest growth ever, in votes at the 2028 federal election.
When the dust is settled after the Liberal Party leadership vote on Friday morning there will be one certainty.
It will all be back on again in 6 to 12 months when the Liberal Party leader is tanking even further in the polls and Andrew Hastie, and maybe others, are undermining the leader trying to take their job.
As the coalition dies so does the Labor / Coalition duopoly of taking turns to govern and that will likely be the end of the Labor Party as we know it as well.
The Labor / Coalition duopoly is destroying Australia and we need to look for better options, which many voters are, and that is why the Coalition are in so much trouble today.
Admin: Eleven weeks ago, I launched a campaign with a simple goal: find 200 new monthly supporters so I can keep doing this work as a fully independent journalist, running this website and the YouTube channel without corporate backing or paywalls.
Since then, 123 wonderful people have stepped up and become monthly supporters. That’s huge, thank you!
We’re now at 77 to go.
If you’ve been enjoying the work and aren’t yet supporting monthly, I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d consider joining them. Here’s the situation:
Like most independent journalists, I’m basically a one-person small business. Right now a lot of us are feeling the squeeze, just like many small businesses and households are. To stay afloat and keep bringing you the reporting I do, I need roughly 200 more people chipping in whatever they can comfortably afford each month.
Anything from $3 to $100 (or whatever works for your budget) makes a real difference. There’s no lock-in, you can cancel or adjust anytime.
If that feels doable for you right now, you can see all the options on the donations page by clicking here.
Your support, whether it’s a monthly donation, a one-time donation, or just sharing the work, is what keeps independent voices like this one alive.

So right KCA. Neither of the Majors deserve our votes
They are only good at own goals
The Herzog debacle which they both embraced was a bigger disaster than they think
Anyone who has read David Crowes book Venom, page 182, “Its available at the local Library”, knows how Lachlan Murdoch conspires with his cabal of subversive media operatives, “Most of them are named” to undermine, white ant and remove, then work the numbers to appoint Liberal party “Leaders” that are more like the billionaire cartels servile puppets. Like the orchestrated Turnbull “Sky After Dark” media assassination, this entire orchestrated knifing of Ley is straight out scripted “Sky After Dark”. The usual RWNJ media suspects all ranting and raving from their TV, Radio, online news print, 24/7 directing the knife thrusts. Looking at those deplorable behind “Angus Taylor and the Liberals bleeding haemorrhoids”, it would be fair to say that these lot, are precisely whom the Liberal party need removed for it to transform into a viable party again? Until the Liberal party can get quality female reps like the Teals, instead of this conga line of deplorable. And yes, some of the present female Liberals are even worse than the blokes. They are going nowhere as we can all see. Do people actually realise the Liberals only have one metropolitan city seat in the entire country, because of these lot, that are voting for Anus Taylor and his bleeding haemorrhoids?
Im a true swinging voter, refusing to be boxed into a singular party. I’ve done my stint with Labor, losing patience and respect for this party since Shorten’s election loss. Albanese has single-handedly ruined Labor. His vast majority will drop significantly at the next election, I predict, losing many seats to the Greens or Independents.
Little Johnny in the Liberal background is a menace. Until he falls off his perch, the Coalition will never be able to move forward. And Abbott is a Howard disciple, forever preaching absolute nonsense.
The state of politics in Australia is frightening for the future, I believe. So, so many people are being left behind. When this powerful bloc of people rise up, these ignorant politicians who refuse to respect the downtrodden will rue the day they didn’t help them more.
We are living with the deadly legacy of John Howard. He is a war criminal who supported the invasion of Iraq leading to over half a million Iraqi civilian deaths. Aussie weapons inspector Rod Barton told him in spades in Dec 2002 that there was no evidence of any WMDs in Iraq yet Howard lied to Parliament about this to justify this murderous US war.
Not content with destroying Iraq he also destroyed Australia economically. His capital gains tax deduction laws were a bribe to his electoral base where he sold off the tax earning base of government. He essentially told his voters he would give them thousands of dollars a year that future Labor governments would seek to take from them if they ever voted them in. The result was inevitable with the housing costs nightmare and superannuation rorts we have today. Howard eviscerated any idea of a progressive tax system, necessary for a civilized economy. He and his neoliberal followers and the Murdoch press have been destroying Australian society and its political system for decades.
Howard said when he retired that he’d be silent, but he’s in the news every second day. And while he was party leader he purged a lot of moderates. The current woes of the LNP are down to him. Poetic justice if and when the LNP fades into oblivion. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!
Angus Taylor has won the leadership vote 34 to 17 and is the new Liberal Party / Coalition leader.
Most Australians see themselves as a bit more astute than Americans spoilt by “having the greatest country in the world” and believing their own propaganda. But we’ve been aping them for so long we’ve contracted the virus. A failed education system – described by John Taylor Gatto in his book “Dumbing Us Down” – made America stupid to the point of self-destruction. If Australians want to avoid that fate (guaranteed if we keep up the nonsense), we’d hold a national summit on the crisis of our education to learn how we might salvage what we still have. Bob Hawke said we had to become a smart country, then did everything he could to ensure the opposite. The Coalition fared no better. We have to face the fact that we’ve become The Stupid Country by carrying on the way the Americans do with the same deluded, hollow, materialistic dream they love to death To show how stupid we are, we thought Donald Horne’s book “The Lucky Country” was literal rather than ironic. He meant we’re lucky we haven’t gone up our own backsides the way we do things at the political and cultural level. Bleating about the failure of politics won’t save us. What will save us isn’t of any interest to enough of us. That puts us on a par with Americans. We need to declare a state of emergency on the the way we educate our kids. We’ve raised at least two generations of mechanical robots. Our politics today wallows with delight in a state of complete absence of genuine critical thinking. That’s national suicide.
In other words, liberalism has destroyed America and Australia.
It makes sense that the Liberal Party of Australia would try to walk away from liberalism, but it seems the voting public isn’t buying it.
Angus Taylor the man implicated in the $80 million,’water buy back scheme.’
Never investigated or questioned regarding this immoral activity that cheatedAustralian tax payers.
Money never recovered.
Sounds like another leader lacking the ethics and morals required for an inspirational future.
So much for the Rhodes Scholarship. Remember his absurd travel expenses attack on Clover Moore? He couldn’t even put the decimal point in the right place! What a dill.
What has become increasingly apparent over the last 2 – 3 years has been the complete subjugation of both major parties to the will of the Australian zionist lobby. It’s been quite tragic to see how easily our politicians can be bought by a free trip to Israel and how keen they are to satisfy their zionist donors by increasingly gaslighting the Australian public about the Palestinian genocide and introducing draconian legislation to prevent any protests about Australia’s involvement in it. The Bondi massacre didn’t appear to have been a false flag operation, but it might as well have been given the levels of government authoritarianism it has enabled. The Greens appear to be the only political party to have retained any sense of decency. As for Albanese, it baffles me that – following the loss of his signature referendum on the Voice to Parliament – he rewards the man whose Advance group financed the ‘No’ vote by appointing his wife as the antisemitism envoy!
Almost didn’t bother commenting, because honestly, the Liberal Party – and the Coalition as a whole – is a complete rabble. In every way, shape, or form, they’re totally insignificant. Angus Taylor might have looked good on paper once, but that was a long time ago. His parliamentary performance has been nothing short of disappointing – totally wanting, totally useless.
What’s worse is that this isn’t just about one man: it’s a reflection of the entire party machine. Out of touch, obsessed with image over substance, and more interested in playing internal games than actually governing. And yet, somehow, they still expect voters to take them seriously.
NEWS FLASH: WE ARE NOT BUYING IT ANYMORE – WELL, I AM NOT!
Haven’t for some time now … decades in fact.
The Coalition is running on empty, and Taylor is just the latest figurehead in a long line of mediocrity. The sad reality? Unless they do a complete reset – and I mean a total, ground-up overhaul – they’re heading nowhere fast, and the voters know it.
IMHO, not even Hastie could fix this mess, and he knew that – even with his bible in one hand and his SAS rifle in the other.
Yeah I’m not sure which ‘part’ looked good ‘on paper’ exactly, was it #XmasGate #TravelGate #GrassGate #Watergate or moronically praising yourself on social media?
Bags of dirty laundry. That air head is full of ego and not a lot more. When you consider Tony Abbott was also a Rhodes ‘scholar’, well that says everything.
“As the coalition dies so does the Labor / Coalition duopoly of taking turns to govern and that will likely be the end of the Labor Party as we know it as well.”
Insightful.
The dynamic at the 1998 Qld Election where One Nation polled 22% was that ON won seats from Nationals and Labor, but Labor ended up with no net losses because of the 6 seats they won from Liberals, and governed for 14 years.
This was the impetus for the LNP merger 10 years later.
That might be the only way out for the Federal non Labor Parties, can’t see either party winning the Farrer byelection in a 3 way contest.
The writing has been on the wall for Labor since they gamed Warringah for Zali Steggall thru tactical voting in 2019.
When we look at the causes of the 2025 federal election Liberal party wipeout, their worst ever result. There were four Liberals that stand out for their absolute destruction and incompetence, the kamikaze like political suicide of the party in that election.
Angus Taylor for his stance, stating the Labor Govt “Tax cuts already given, would actually be wound back” by an LNP Govt.
Jane Hume for her ‘No work from home” and “Chinese spy’s” nonsense. Jacinta Price with her “MAGA speech” death blow, right in front of Dutton just as he was distancing the party from it, after Michaela Cash had been ranting and raving about the LNP would be “Governing like Trump MAGA” if elected. Well all four are now in back in control of the Liberal party again?
As KCA has stated, its politics dictated by Sky After Dark, they are running on nothing but failed political ideology and last century rhetoric.
Angus Taylor is regurgitating discredited neoliberal propaganda as the basis of his destructive policies. Making our borders secure, reducing government regulations and reducing government taxes. Broad brush motherhood statements supposedly leading to a sunlight economic upland and never mind the details. The slashing of Medicare, education and welfare funding will only later emerge as the unavoidable consequences of these economic “reforms.” Last night on the 7.30 Report Sarah Ferguson told Angus Taylor that the Grattan Institute had made findings that a reduction in GST tax benefits for property owners was economically viable and would enable the funding of social housing schemes. Taylor was fatuous and dismissive, declaring that a raft of economic research over decades had confirmed that increased taxes always lead to a reduction in overall tax take, a flat out lie, long debunked.
Taylor’s statement that “Tax cuts already given, would actually be wound back” by an LNP Govt is part of this deception of fiscal rectitude. The tax cuts mentioned were minor for most people in the middle and lower classes. No mention of challenging the extensive tax breaks for property investors or wealthy superannuants. Taylor is a fraudster heading us back to the bad old days of rotten, paternalistic Liberal policies that protect the rich.
