Donald Trump’s latest criminal charges revolve around promoting the lie that the 2020 US Presidential election was stolen and right at the heart of promoting that lie has been Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch, Fox News and their other media outlets.

I have no doubt that US special counsel Jack Smith who is investigating Trump for numerous alleged crimes is also having a close look at Fox News and the Murdoch’s as Fox was the key media organisation used to promote the lies. The proof of the Murdoch’s involvement was publicly exposed in Dominion Voting System’s defamation case against Fox News which centred on the exact same lies that the 2020 US Presidential election was stolen. Fox settled the matter, on the day the trial was meant to start (18th of April 2023), for $1.17 billion ($US 787.5 million).

Before we have a closer look at Murdoch’s problems, Donald Trump’s latest charges (2/8/23) are reported as:

Former US president Donald Trump has been indicted on four charges related to alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 US presidential election.

The grand jury indictment alleges Mr Trump conspired to defraud the US by preventing Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory and depriving voters of their right to a fair election.

The charges include conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against voter rights. (Click here to read more) 

The latest charges relate to the “January 6 United States Capitol attack”:

On January 6, 2021, following the defeat of U.S. President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, a mob of his supporters attacked the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. The mob sought to keep Trump in power by preventing a joint session of Congress from counting the electoral college votes to formalize the victory of President-elect Joe Biden. The new charges are Donald Trump’s 3rd lot of charges in 4 months with more charges likely within the next week or so and maybe more after that.

Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch’s problems  

While Donald Trump is the only person on the charge sheet for the latest alleged crimes there are six alleged co-conspirators who have not been named but the media have guessed most of them and a few have been confirmed by their lawyers. 

Co-conspirator one is believed to be Rudy Giuliani and co-conspirator three is believed to be Sidney Powell and from what I have read what they are moistly accused of is helping promote the lies in the media.

So, if Rudy Giuliani’s and Sidney Powell’s main crime is helping promote the lies in the media which helped facilitate the conspiracy shouldn’t the media owners who also knowingly promoted the lies that helped facilitate the conspiracy be charged with crimes? Of course.

What makes it worse for the Murdoch’s is there is a truckload of evidence to support criminal charges against Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch and Fox News. When Fox and the Murdoch’s settled the Dominion Voting System’s defamation case most of the evidence had already been made public and it showed that the Murdoch’s were knowingly promoting Donald Trump’s stolen election lies for their own financial benefit.

Evidence that is published during Donald Trump’s January 6 criminal charges might also be used against the Murdoch’s and Fox in civil lawsuits as it is certain Rudy Giuliani’s and Sidney Powell’s numerous appearances on Fox News will be tendered as evidence.

For example, voting system company Smartmatic is also suing Fox for false claims that Smartmatic helped steal the election so evidence from the key witnesses in Trump’s trial might be helpful to their case.

Then there is all the people who were injured on January 6, 2021 which includes a reported 138 police officers. If Donald Trump is found guilty of the January 6 criminal charges then those people could sue Donald Trump, Fox News and the Murdoch’s who helped promote it.

As you would expect Fox News are attacking the new charges against Donald Trump. But is their main motivation to protect Donald Trump or their bosses Rupert Murdoch and Lachlan Murdoch?

I think by the end of the year the Murdoch’s will be in a lot of trouble.
