Kevin Rudd, former Australian Prime Minister and currently Australia’s Ambassador to the US, who was the driving force behind the Murdoch Royal Commission push in Australia was happily interviewed by Joe Hockey for Murdoch’s Sky News at the US Republican Convention in July 2024.
It would have been extremely humiliating for Kevin Rudd to in effect publicly bow to Rupert Murdoch by doing the interview for Murdoch’s Sky News given their recent history.
Murdoch’s Sky News humiliated Kevin Rudd globally in March this year in an interview Donald Trump gave which ended in Trump attacking Rudd.
Kevin Rudd has basically said “stuff the Murdoch Royal Commission and its supporters” as they are no longer of value to him.
So, let’s look at the story, in order, to understand it easier.
Kevin Rudd v Rupert Murdoch
Kevin Rudd started pushing for a Murdoch Royal Commission in Australia in 2020 and set up a website and started a petition. From memory, I think I signed the online petition.
In February 2021 Kevin Rudd threatened to sue Sky News’ Peta Credlin. The SMH reported:
Former prime minister Kevin Rudd has welcomed an on-air apology from Sky News commentator Peta Credlin for saying his petition for a “Royal Commission to ensure a strong, diverse Australian news media” was a “data harvesting exercise”.
Mr Rudd confirmed the apology, which Ms Credlin delivered on her show on Monday night, was part of a defamation settlement.
“I’m pleased to say that Murdoch’s Peta Credlin – the Liberal Party mouthpiece masquerading as a journalist – has settled my complaint against her for defamation. The terms are confidential, but here’s the on-air apology for her false claims on Sky News,” Mr Rudd wrote on Twitter.
“I’m fortunate to have the resources to take on the Murdoch media. But so many ordinary Australians are targeted by these bullies every day, ruining their lives, and they have no means of fighting back. Kevin Rudd v Donald Trump
Kevin Rudd is no fan of Donald Trump and has attacked him regularly over the years as per the below message on Twitter.
In June 2020 Kevin Rudd posted the below message on Twitter attacking Donald Trump and Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News: (Click here to see on Twitter)
By 2024 it was time for Rupert Murdoch to get payback and in the below video it was clearly a stitch up by Murdoch as the question starts off “Our friends at Sky news wanted me to ask this” about Rudd attacking Trump. Donald Trump says Rudd “won’t be there long” if he is elected President again in the below video which was recorded on the 20th of March 2024.
Even in the above question, framed by Murdoch’s Sky News, it starts off about AUKUS which is the money train for politicians here in Australia, the UK and US.
The above video would have infuriated Kevin Rudd as it went global and everyone in Washington and Canberra would have been talking about it. It was the ultimate humiliation and payback by Murdoch against Kevin Rudd.
But by July 2024 Kevin Rudd is on Sky News in the US eating humble pie talking about how if Donald Trump is re-elected it will be business as usual for the US and Australian relationship. (Click here to watch the full 17-minute video interview between Kevin Rudd and Joe Hockey)
Kevin Rudd tweeted the below video on the 18th of July 2024 with the message:
“Brand Australia is in good shape here in the United States. Successive Australian and US governments have made sure of that, and we’ll continue to work positively & constructively with whichever party is elected in November. Kevin Rudd not only grovelled to Rupert Murdoch, but also Donald Trump, in the above video and the full video which shows Kevin Rudd doesn’t let his personal ambitions be hindered by nasty things like self-respect, integrity and ethics.
No one forced Kevin Rudd do the interview with Joe Hockey and Sky News. It was his own choice.

What now for the Murdoch Royal Commission?
So where does it leave the 500,000 plus people who signed the Murdoch Royal Commission petition which Kevin Rudd pushed for?
The Murdoch Royal Commission was a great idea and well worth pushing for even though it was always going to be a longshot.
But it would have been hugely embarrassing for the Murdoch’s which made it a success anyhow.
While Kevin Rudd is Australia’s Ambassador to the US the Murdoch Royal Commission has zero chance of happening and I think whoever is running the Murdoch Royal Commission website should be honest with their supporters about that.
Kevin Rudd pushed for the Murdoch Royal Commission while it suited him and his agenda, and now it doesn’t, he has buckled and bowed to Rupert Murdoch for his own benefit as the above article shows.

Bloody hell, money really does talk, all integrity out the window.
Turnbull was also involved with Rudd in that 500,000 signature petition to set up the Murdoch Royal commission. After reading what SMH political editor David Crowe wrote on page 182 of his book “Venom”, you would think Turnbull and every concerned Australian, would want Murdoch and every one of those corrupted media propaganda units involved in removing Turnbull from office and replacing him with a servile Murdoch puppet Dutton Govt, exposed to public and judicial scrutiny. This was probably the most corrupted Murdoch political conspiracy in Australian history after the Whitlam dismissal.
Pretty clear to anyone with eyes and a functioning brain that Rudd is all bluff when it comes down to money and status.
It’s all about Kevin and he only got the US Ambassador position because Albanese wanted him far away from Australia so he can’t be a threat to Albanese. Both Rudd and Albanese are megalomaniacs and they would clash being in the same country.
Is anyone really surprised?
So sad to see not only KRudd but Labor go down the gurgler. Both no longer trustworthy
Rudd has been careless with the truth since he first threw his hat in the political ring. He was never trustworthy, preferring to appraise billion dollar projects on the back of envelopes, rather than through the appropriate ministerial department.
Rudd is a representative of the Albanese Labor government. Any meetings will be to support Albanese government policy.
Seems obvious.
It always was an odd appointment. I never got it. I could not make out if Albo was oblivious or somehow very smart giving Kevin Rudd that job.
Kevin had many visionary ideas to change Labor’s direction. Which were supported by voters. Check on Google between 2007 and 2010.But Shorten, the Labor boss was in a hurry to become Labor leader and a Labor PM.
Even a week before the coup popularity for Labor 52:48 Liberal. As told by Labor MP Mark Butler, quite respectable.
But Rudd’s policies were not what Shorten wanted which were greater ties with the US, support business – all Howard’s policies, support wealthy Australians.
These people, Melbourne’s business elite, Shorten mixed with, cultivated billionaire Richard Pratt, Visy, indicate the direction for a Labor government when he had influence. He had none with Rudd.
Even though Shorten only was elected in 2007 also getting the Victorian numbers man to swing his Supporters behind Shorten and kick out the sitting member in Maribrynong, Victoria.
So Shorten, with Don Farrell and others, the Labor Faceless men, got the numbers to defeat Rudd in June 2010.
You can be fairly certain that if Rudd had contested the 2010 election Labor would have won more than the 72 seats Gillard won. Which was effectively a Labor loss. The LNP won 73.
Rudd won in 2007 with 83 seats.
And so, under Shortens influence Labor lost in 2013, 2016, 2019. Being best friends from school with Past IPA CEO John Roskam, should give you an idea about Shorten’s philosophy.
Albo was upset about Kevin’s loss, in the 2010 coup, as were most of the Labor left faction , when the opportunity and the US Ambassador role came up, Rudd got the job.
His duty is to support all Albanese policies.

BREAKING! Kevin Rudd Pivots, Signs Lifetime Loyalty Contract with Murdoch
In the latest chapter of “Kevin Rudd: From Renegade to Yes-Man,” the former PM was spotted at the U.S. Republican Convention, nodding furiously while Joe Hockey grilled him on Sky News. Rumor has it, Rudd swore a secret oath to Murdoch under a full moon, using a rolled-up newspaper as a sword. Sources say he’s also taking salsa lessons to ensure his bow to Murdoch has the right amount of flair.
Meanwhile, 500,000 signatures on the Royal Commission petition just became paper airplanes.
