National Anti-Corruption Commission

Federal independent MP Helen Haines upsets voters by pushing government propaganda for the corrupt NACC

Federal independent MP Helen Haines received a lot of negative feedback after she decided to promote on social media the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) celebrating its first year of operation.

The problem is that the highest profile corruption investigation the NACC is currently doing is into itself, and likely its Commissioner Paul Brereton, for alleged corruption.

The NACC released a statement on the 6/6/24 saying the NACC would not investigate 6 people that had been referred to the NACC for alleged corruption by the Robodebt Royal Commissioner Catherine Holmes. One of the 6 included NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton’s good friend Kathryn Campbell. It was a blatant cover-up by the NACC. (Click here to read more)

On the 13/6/24 the Inspector of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, Gail Furness SC, announced that she will investigate the NACC for alleged “corrupt conduct” regarding the Robodebt cover-up. (Click here t read more)

The NACC has a lot more problems as well with the NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton exposed protecting his mates in the ADF, including Governor-General David Hurley, from war crimes in a government report published on the 16th of May 2024.

The NACC already had a credibility problem given the government lied to the public about having public hearings and all hearings are now secret except in exceptional circumstances which is not what the current government promised voters before the 2022 federal election.

Given the above it is bordering on scandalous for Helen Haines to go on social media and boast about the good work the NACC is doing, as per below, and talk about how it is “just the start of restoring public trust in federal politics”. (Click here to see on Twitter)

Helen Haines needs to face up to the fact that the NACC is a total failure and an embarrassment, and it’s not a mistake it’s like that. Because Prime Minister Anthony Albanese did a dirty deal with Peter Dutton to make sure the NACC covered up more corruption than it would ever expose. (Click here to read more)

But it’s not all bad. Federal independent MP Monique Ryan isn’t copping any crap and sent the below letter, which she published on social media, to federal Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus.

Monique Ryan asked Mr Dreyfus what he is going to do about the Robodebt cover-up by the NACC which puts him in a difficult position given he engineered the NACC to cover-up corruption.

Monique Ryan

I’m a big supporter of independent politicians and we need many more in federal government. But that does not mean they won’t be called out if they promote government propaganda which Helen Haines has done above.

Helen Haines says above she is “proud to continue this work as the Deputy-Chair of the NACC oversight committee”. Maybe Helen Haines should quit the “Deputy-Chair of the NACC oversight committee” position and start speaking the truth about the NACC failing instead of promoting the government’s propaganda.

I hope Helen Haines will get it right, but she has been put on notice not just by me, but also by the many people who commented on her social media post above, that we won’t tolerate propaganda and/or lies about how good the NACC is doing.

The NACC needs to be fixed and fixed fast otherwise it will become even more of national joke than it already is.

  1. Nothing surprising really, it’s a race to the bottom to see who is credited as having least credibility, HH has joined the race with Dutton, Albonese Dreyfus Wong, Littleproud and Barnaby J, other independent from Tasmania Senator J Lambie joined in years back..while the show is very theatrical.

  2. Great letter from Monique Ryan. Hopefully she has support from others in attempting to bring about the transparency that is required and was promised.

  3. As Yogi Berra`s celebrated quote went Ìt`s deja vu all over again’. A half century ago, a number of us took on the State and Federal legal systems in exposing the corruption in the various Supreme Courts. The Coalition told us to get lost, Labor under Whitlam removed divorce from the avarice of lawyers (temporarily). Of course, the investigation went nowhere and the bleeding of families continues today. Why did we fall for the new confidence trick of Labor that they would wash dirty linen in public? Trusting politicians must be on a par with believing we can win the lottery. Deja vu revisited.

  4. I am very disappointed in Helen Haines….I thought she was above that swill. Obviously been corrupted by the company she keeps!

  5. I would report ALP / LP / NACC to the ACCC for cartel behaviour were it not for the fact that the ACCC is as corrupt as the cartel – deadends everywhere.

Helen Haines needs to seriously rethink her position before she looses all credability.

  6. The TEAL ladies are proving to be real bright lights in the current Australian Parliament.

While I support Dr Helen Haines as an INDEPENDENT MP I think in this matter she has failed to consider the evidence of cover ups to protect Scummo & his Robodebt mates, among other political profanities.

The Albanese LABOT government needs to grow some political testicles and take on the difficult tasks of holding Scummo & cronies to account for the too many crimes against the best interests of Australian voters.

  7. Thanks, KCA, for opening the eyes of this Indi constituent. Time to hang your head in shame HH, that’s if you have a conscience.

  9. Dreyfus, in his reply, will simply refer to current investigations and support the Commissioner’s argument. Ryan in her letter should have provided evidence as to why the royal commission found it necessary to refer peoples to NACC, in addition to those other investigative bodies and how NACC would indeed add value.

  10. The only difference between the 2 major parties is in their names. Behind the scenes neither leadership group can lie straight in bed.
Trust in independents is affected with comments like this. One has to ask the question as to who is financing these “independent” players.
