Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the federal Labor government are about to be humiliated by an independent inquiry into AUKUS, which everyone knows is a massive fraud scam.
The UK and US have recently had inquiries into the AUKUS agreement, so there is no justifiable reason why the Australian government has not had an inquiry, especially when we are spending $368 billion for only 8 submarines.
The Australian government’s refusal to have an inquiry has left the door open for the Independent Inquiry, which by itself should be embarrassing for the federal government.
The Guardian reported (2/6/26):
The former environment minister Peter Garrett will lead an independent inquiry into the Aukus defence pact, launched by a group of Labor veterans and public figures concerned proper scrutiny has never been applied to the $368bn defence plan.
Garrett, the Midnight Oil frontman and longtime environmental campaigner, will be the lead commissioner on the five-month community-based investigation, being launched on Tuesday.
It will hold public hearings and take written submissions before delivering a final report by 30 October.
Labor agreed to support the deal for Australia to acquire nuclear submarines in collaboration with the US and the UK, negotiated under the Morrison government and announced in 2021. As part of the agreement, Australia is funding upgrades to the US defence industrial base and will start receiving secondhand nuclear submarines in 2032. (Click here to read more)
The Guardian article is misleading in that Scott Morrison announced the deal in 2021, but the contract was negotiated by the Labor government and finalised in March 2023 by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, as per the below picture.

Labor Party supporters are trying to blame former Prime Minister Scott Morrison for AUKUS, but the Labor Party supported it from the start and negotiated the dodgy final contract for $368 billion for 8 submarines.
The $368 billion price tag is bad enough, but Labor negotiated a deal where we hand over tens of $billions before we get any submarines, and there is no clawback if we don’t get the submarines. Who signs off on a deal that bad? What was their motive?
The deal changes to 3 rusty secondhand submarines
Australia was meant to receive 1 new and 2 used submarines from the US, but now it will be 3 used submarines. The government is trying to sell it as a good deal because we will save money as per the below video.
All the usual suspects are raising their heads, such as Scott Morrison in the above video, which should embarrass the federal government even more, as Morrison should be facing criminal charges over Robodebt, not lecturing the government.
It should also be noted that Morrison’s best mates David Gazard and Peter Costello made $millions from the aborted French submarine deal, and now Morrison is trying to make money from AUKUS.
The independent AUKUS inquiry
The AUKUS Public Inquiry has already set up a website, and it says on the about page:
Why we urgently need a Public Inquiry
The AUKUS deal was conceived in secret and with deception — and continues to be shrouded in secrecy despite the incredibly high stakes and massive cost. Our government has already spent $10 billion of our taxes on US and UK shipyards at a time when much of the world is in conflict and Australians are suffering from a cost-of-living crisis.
A group of former MPs, retired military and naval officers, leading strategists and academics, human rights lawyers and union leaders are committing to an independent Public Inquiry into AUKUS. This Inquiry is coordinated by the Australian Peace and Security Forum (APSF) — ensuring it is grounded in expertise, independence, and a commitment to serious evidence-based examination. (Click here to read more)
The Inquiry has 5 commissioners: Peter Garrett, Karina Lester, Chris Barrie, Carmen Lawrence and Leanne Minshull.
Hearings have already been set down for Melbourne, Wollongong / Port Kembla, Fremantle, Sydney, Adelaide and Canberra.
So, they mean business and have obviously been planning the AUKUS Inquiry for a while.
Will the AUKUS Public Inquiry achieve much? Yes, they will because I don’t see it as an Inquiry into defence or submarines.
I see it as a political corruption Inquiry with a long list of Liberal and Labor politicians with their snouts in the AUKUS trough, and I will be making submissions to that effect.
KCA News: I started the Kangaroo Court Uncut podcast on Monday with Robert Cameron (Click here to watch) with plans to publish the podcast every Monday afternoon on the Kangaroo Court of Australia YouTube channel.
Admin: Twenty-seven weeks ago, I launched a campaign with a simple goal: find 200 new monthly supporters so I can keep doing this work as a fully independent journalist, running this website and the YouTube channel without corporate backing or paywalls.
Since then, 175 wonderful people have stepped up and become monthly supporters. That’s huge, thank you!
We’re now at 25 to go.
If you’ve been enjoying the work and aren’t yet supporting monthly, I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d consider joining them. Here’s the situation:
Like most independent journalists, I’m basically a one-person small business. Right now, a lot of us are feeling the squeeze, just like many small businesses and households are. To stay afloat and keep bringing you the reporting I do, I need roughly 200 more people chipping in whatever they can comfortably afford each month.
Anything from $3 to $100 (or whatever works for your budget) makes a real difference. There’s no lock-in, you can cancel or adjust anytime.
If that feels doable for you right now, you can see all the options on the donations page by clicking here.
Your support, whether it’s a monthly donation, a one-time donation, or just sharing the work, is what keeps independent voices like this one alive.

I would bet that this much needed investigation will expose a lucrative gravy train for both Labor and Liberal past and current pollies. I so admire Peter Garrett for this initiative. It may very well be the end of Albanese and Marles. I certainly hope so. Both appear to be on a path to destruction, in their quest for bettering their status beyond their roles.
And if US$368B for America’s scrap subs isn’t bad enough, now the severely demented carrot is imposing 10% tax on imports/exports. WE had ship building yards in Williamstown Vic albeit not submarines, but some smartass politician decides to get rid of those too. Time voters used their brain for a change
And if a politician is corrupt, then they should be dealt with the same as any other criminal lowlife.
The veritable Cash for Clunkers it seems.
AUKUS was created in 2021 under the Morrison Government (Liberal–National Coalition).
Scott Morrison, Joe Biden, and Boris Johnson jointly announced the AUKUS pact.
This included the plan for Australia to acquire nuclear‑powered submarines from the US and UK.
We do have the ability to build these ourselves, even if they were to be twice the price, the money stays here in Australia.
Hey, it’s only taxpayers’ money. Who cares which wall we piss it up against? What a joke. $369B would buy a lot of drones, missiles, schools and hospitals.
How can it be independent with Garrett & Lawrence, both Labor? I don’t know about the others.
