The Labor Party is slowly but surely self-destructing the same as the Liberal Party has. And it’s what’s inside the Labor Party that is its biggest threat.
In this article I will look at several examples of the enemies within the Labor Party killing Labor such as Labor’s attacks on the One Nation Party, which often lead to an own goal by Labor, so-called Labor supporters with their own agenda, and their most recent own goal of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese doing an ill-advised grubby interview.
Recent polls show Labor’s decline since the May 2025 federal election, with Labor’s primary vote support down from 34.56% to 25.5%, which puts them second behind One Nation with a primary vote of 26%.
Roy Morgan polling says: “Despite dropping behind on primary vote, the ALP maintains the same narrow edge on a two-party preferred basis against either One Nation (53% cf. 47%) or the L-NP Coalition (53% cf. 47%).” (Click here to read more)

While still being ahead on a two-party preferred basis, Labor’s greatest concern is that their primary vote has dropped 9% from 34.56% at the May 2025 federal election to 25.5%, and if it continues to decline, Labor will be in major trouble at the next federal election, which is due by May 2028.
Labor should learn from the Liberal Party’s decline
The Liberal Party / National Party coalition received 31.82% of the primary vote at the 2025 federal election and is now down to 22%, which is a 10% drop in the primary vote, and it will destroy the party if maintained at the 2028 federal election.
Almost all of the voters who have left the Liberal Party / National Party coalition have gone to One Nation.
While the Liberal Party politicians say publicly they need to change to survive, they are doing absolutely nothing to change, as the people with power in the Liberal Party don’t want to give it up.
The voters who have deserted the Coalition have done so because they believe the Coalition has failed them in the past and will do so in the future. Those voters have an issue with the Coalition.
Those same voters haven’t left the Coalition because the One Nation Party all of sudden came up with new policies that appeal to them.
So when the Liberal / National Party Coalition attacks the One Nation Party trying to win back voters, they are achieving nothing because that does not solve the voters’ issues with the failings of the Coalition.
And that is the lesson for the Labor Party. There is no value in attacking the One Nation Party trying to win back voters if the voters left the Labor Party because they are not happy with Labor.
Labor attacks on One Nation backfire
The Labor Party should be promoting all the great work they have done over the last 4 years, but because they have failed to achieve much, they are spending a lot of time attacking Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party, who only have 2 seats in the lower house and 4 seats in the senate.
Attack one
Labor probably would have done well with their ongoing attacks about One Nation’s donations from billionaire Gina Rinehart until Prime Minister Anthony Albanese went to dinner for a $1 million bribe (donation) from Felix Lee.
When the $1 million bribe was exposed, Labor then tried to launder the $1 million into smaller amounts, which was also exposed, which is a major own goal by Albanese and the Labor Party.
So, now anytime Labor attacks One Nation’s donations from billionaire Gina Rinehart, One Nation supporters respond with Labor’s hypocrisy of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being paid $1 million for a dinner.
Attack two
Recently Pauline Hanson went to the UK and did an interview with Tommy Robinson. It was really a none-issue as most Australians wouldn’t even know who Tommy Robinson is.
The Labor Party and others attacked the interview, saying such things as Tommy Robinson “is a far-right anti-immigration figure in the UK with an extensive criminal record, who has served prison sentences for fraud and assault.” (Click here to read more)
Once again, Labor probably might have gained some benefit attacking Pauline Hanson and her interview with Tommy Robinson, except they made the fatal mistake of rolling out federal MP Tanya Plibersek to do some of the attacking.
In the below video Tanya Plibersek says Pauline Hanson is “palling around with convicted criminals” in relation to Hanson’s Tommy Robinson interview.
One Nation Supporters were very quick to point out on social media that federal MP Tanya Plibersek is married to Michael Coutts-Trotter.
Michael Coutts-Trotter’s Wikipedia page says, “In 1986, he received a nine-year prison sentence as a drug dealer selling heroin to addicts. He served two years and nine months in jail before parole in 1988.” (Click here to read more)
For Tanya Plibersek to belittle Paul Hanson for “palling around with convicted criminals” is hypocrisy at the highest given she is married to a convicted heroin dealer. Another own goal for the Labor Party.
Labor supporters with their own agenda
Former Labor politicians such as former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and former leader Bill Shorten were not popular with voters at the end of their political careers, but they can’t help themselves and still court the media limelight.
It might be helpful for Rudd’s and Shorten’s own pockets and careers outside politics but it is a drag on the current Labor government as every time they are in the media they look like the hangers-on they are which turns voters off.
The Labor Party would do well to ask them to move on from political commentary in the media, but I doubt they will.
Anthony Albanese’s ill-advised grubby interview
The Labor Party is currently using a lot of political capital trying to defend Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s grubby interview on the Bush Deep Podcast on the 3rd of July 2026 with comedian Nikki Osborne.
The fallout from the Bush Deep Podcast will likely continue next week as the Senate has ordered the government to produce its diplomatic communications with Japan regarding Albanese’s comments on the podcast. Once again, another own goal by Albanese and the Labor Party.
With the $1 million bribe dinner, attempted cover-up and the grubby Bush Deep Podcast interview you would have to think at least some federal Labor MPs are starting to question Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s political judgment.

I know many will disagree with me, but I feel strongly that the best replacement for Albanese would be Ed Husic. Albanese has no concept of the meaning of ethic, but this is what is needed in both the Coalition and Labor. Ed Husic has it. Hanson is smart enough to know this is required so pretends this is what she’s offering. Albanese doesn’t even realise this. He’s so full of his own self importance and his saviour rise to the top, that he has missed what the electorate were looking for – principle and non-corrupt behaviour.
After the disgusting term of Morrison and his crookedness, only to be followed by Dutton, Australia needed a change. And we got Albanese, expecting so much better.
Its sad that Labor has dropped so low. But its entirely due to one hubristic man. Albanese, like the Liberals’ Morrison has killed the Labor party because he refuses to listen, to apologise when wrong or function for the left. Labor are not politically of the right, and yet I believe that Albanese has moved Labor across the line with all his terrified Ministers falling into place behind him.

Ed Husic was fully supporting Albanese and the government until he was booted as a minister. Husic is no hero.
Labor have continued all Howard’s, Turnbull and Morrison’s policies and are more extreme in all.
Their loyalty is to the USA, with US military in the NT, US nuclear submarines near Perth, WA with East Coast coming soon and US weapons storage near Wodonga, Victoria plus the AUKUS radioactive waste dumps near Perth and Adelaide from media reports.
As well as to the other Middle East country, won’t be just Albanese’s decision, but others in Labor leadership.
And China, our biggest trading partner, who gives us our prosperity is the enemy, says Labor.
A very unpatriotic government, where donations from wealthy businesses decide policies. All large political parties accept donations, their totals are in many $millions.
If you are a poorer adult, especially a child or nature you will be ignored. No donations from them.
How much further will Labor’s opinion poll vote drop?

Chasing the Chinese vote is a fools errand, they’re born gamblers and will always try to back the winner.
The reality, which the so called Labor Left is waking up to, is Albanese has gone nearly all the way with Donald Trump the last 18 months.
What was the result of Albanese meeting with Trump in Washington in March 2025?
The polls completely reversed and the Coalition was caned 2 months later.
He can do that again before Trump leaves office.
I have been a Labor voter for 60 years, & a member of my local Labor branch for only 3 or 4 years. A friend a very staunch Labor Party person were kicked out of the local Branch. Not a very well run branch. I think it was just a one person decision. It is not a very inspiring branch, so I wasn’t upset about my “Dismissal “. I think there were 3 members decided to leave the branch after our dismissal. They thought it wasn’t a good decision. I am confused as I am still receiving information from the Labor Party. I often ask my self where is our Democracy!!! Coming to the conclusion, it is almost non excitant.

I think people forget what an absolute economic, social, trade, construction, housing, education, aged, child care, environment, etc, etc, policy catastrophe the previous LNP Govt was? The Albanese Govt for all its perceived corrupted media 24/7 enhanced faults in contrast is outstanding in comparison. Look at the alternative party’s, is there really any alternative? The floundering LNP is nothing more than a collection of crazy extreme right religious fundamentalist factions branch stacking against each other with zero policy apart from saying no to everything and of course the contrived usual culture war nonsense. With an ascendant Mad Monk Abbott “Catholic faction” and “News corpse board member”, back in control of Liberal party administration and preselection its a ticking time bomb. And then there’s the Ginger whinger, which is nothing more than a Rhinehart billionaire cartel vested interest bankrolled, foreign bot army social media scam machine, for anyone gullible enough to take it seriously. The corrupted media refuses to even mention the Greens, whom may as well not even exist the way it has been performing the last 4 years. Speaking of the media, here’s the ABC Insiders Speer’s LNP/ON spin merchant, dribbling about this melons non event again?
Any party who harms children in any way will never get my vote.
The long term electoral trend is for the major parties (the Laborials, so-called because there really is not much difference between their policies) to decline (for the obvious reasons) and for independents and small parties (in their various shades) to increase. At the moment the major parties outnumber the independents and small parties electorally, but only just just, and it’s getting tight. When those two graph lines intersect and swap over, coalitions will become necessary (I’m counting the LNP and Nats as one party here, because that’s really what they are behaviourally, despite their protestations).
The coalitions won’t be perfect by a long way (many other countries have coalitions, and it’s sometimes not a pretty sight), but they’ll be much more responsive to the public’s wishes and (hopefully) less determined by the big parties’ internal factions.
My preference would be to the left, but anything would be better than the corruption, stupidity, amorality and lack of sovereignty we have today.
A start would be abolition of the states or at least the elimination of duplication, and rationalising the GST carve-up as well, but that ain’t gonna happen! In the UK some fundamental reforms are similarly overdue (listening Mr Burnham?), but getting rid of the first past the post electoral system and rejoining the EU won’t be easy. Just tinkering with individual policies won’t achieve much, as we’ve seen in both Australia and the UK.
And then there’s the small matter of global warming….

The Major parties have shown us who they are,
Never vote the Majors, they don’t care about Australians.
Wouldn’t it be something if they decided to have some more progressive policies they could talk about, or decided to take on the anti immigration debate which is such a nonsense. No – play it safe. Meld in with the others. Hope to be re-elected with minimal effort or imagination. Can’t afford to think about the electorate at all cos Murdock and the pile ons might say something unpleasant or reveal their inability to explain their lack of interest in the electorate cos thats not what they got into politics for. It was for the thrust and parry and point scoring against an opposition as limp as lettuce on the other side of the Parliament. And fortunately they’re not in the Parliament all that often often either.
Pathetic.
A huge issue for this ex Labor voter is Albanese’s lily livered endorsement of America’s invasion of Iran and the slaughter of Iranian schoolchildren. I know this has disgusted and alienated many once Labor voters besides me. Plus Wong’s defence of Australia selling war plane parts to Israel and Marles going to America to suck up to the moron war criminal Hegseth. I will NEVER vote Labor again
And look at the latest where it is claimed all the ex Labor Ministers and their hangers on have lobbied to embed Palantir embedded in government work. How bad can it get! The liberals won’t save us and we can be sure as hell labor won’t either.
And see suited Sam on 4 Corners having a glass of water and trying to defend the changes in aged care. The suited technocrats who have never experienced the real world- explain to me how these managerialists differ from the Liberals please.
