Exposed: PM Anthony Albanese the $6 million liar

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been exposed lying on national TV, as per the below video, about a $6 million grant his government gave to a golf club in his electorate. The grant was part of a $560 million pork-barrelling scam to buy the Labor Party votes at the 2025 federal election.

I would expect there will be at least a Senate Inquiry into the $560 million pork-barrelling especially given it is over 5 times the size of the Coalition’s $100 million Sports Rorts pork barrelling scandal.

On the face of it, Albanese probably didn’t need to lie about the $6 million golf club grant, but the fact that he did says he has something to hide, and what he has to hide needs an investigation.

Background to the $560 million pork barrelling

The ABC reported on the (9/9/26):

The Marrickville Golf Club was one of 220 projects promised funding through an invitation-only grant program established to pay election commitments made by Labor.

A Centre for Public Integrity investigation found the $560 million program heavily favoured safe Labor seats and marginal contests the party hoped to win.

Its chair, former justice Anthony Whealy, told the ABC on Tuesday that the government had a “heavy onus” to justify how projects were chosen for funding.

and:

The club was awarded $6.05 million to fully renovate the clubhouse, work that included new outdoor dining, a fix to its sewerage and stormwater systems, an accessibility ramp and landscaping.

That promise was announced by the prime minister in April last year while he was on the campaign trail.

It was the only golf club invited for funding under the MLCI program. (Click here to read more)

In the below video, Anthony Albanese is interviewed on the ABC News Breakfast program (9/9/26) about the Golf Club grant.

Three key issues in the below video:

1. Albanese implies the grant was solely for flooding and sewerage problems at the golf club, which is a lie.

2. Albanese’s obvious strategy in the video to waste time on irrelevant matters is a standard politician’s tactic in effect admitting they have something to hide.

3. Albanese spends a lot of time at the end saying how membership at the golf club is only $5. The ABC reported: “A two-year social membership at the club costs $5, while a full membership costs $1,100 a year”.

The ABC responded to Anthony Albanese’s attack on the ABC in the above video and published the below:

This morning, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attacked a report by the ABC detailing an honorary membership he held with the Marrickville Golf Club, and which has not been declared on his register of interests.

Albanese said the ABC “should do better”, and that it had not appropriately reported information provided.

As reported, his office did not provide a response to questions put by the ABC in relation to his membership, or the process by which the Marrickville Golf Club was identified and recommended for a $6 million grant.

The prime minister sought to clarify what the $6.05 million grant was for.

“The ABC were told information they chose not to publish appropriately. What it’s for is, for at the moment, because it is on a flood area by the Cooks River — when it rains and there’s flooding, raw sewage goes into the Cooks River. That’s what it’s for — for fixing that. I make no apologies for my electorate being serviced by me as a good local member,” Albanese told ABC News Breakfast.

The ABC included in its initial report that the funding would help to fix Marrickville Golf Club’s sewerage and stormwater systems as part of a full renovation that would also include new outdoor dining, an accessibility ramp and landscaping.

In his 2025 announcement of the $6m funding commitment, Albanese said the funding would “go towards delivering an upgrade of the entire precinct … work will include expanding outdoor areas for greater social and community enjoyment as well as providing pedestrian and bike access so people can more easily get to and enjoy the precinct”.

“Patrons and guests will enjoy better indoor amenities with clubhouse renovations and the provision of community meeting and function rooms.”

“Sustainability will also be a focus with stormwater to be harvested, irrigating the golf course and the local sporting fields.”

The prime minister also suggested the ABC had reported that a membership costs $5. However as reported by the ABC, a full annual membership costs $1,100. It does cost $5 for a two-year social membership. (Click here to see on the ABC website)

Normally I wouldn’t use the whole ABC article, but given it is fairly brutal in that it points out numerous lies by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, I thought it was in the public interest to do.

I pointed out numerous lies by Albanese above and in the video, but the ABC has pointed out even more lies in their response to Albanese’s attack on the ABC.

For example, in the above video, Albanese claims his office told the ABC the truth before they published their article. But the ABC are now saying Albanese’s office “did not provide a response to questions put by the ABC,” which, if true, means almost everything Anthony Albanese said in the interview in the above video was a lie.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wasn’t ducking, weaving and lying in the above video for no reason. There are 560 million reasons why he is worried, and hopefully there will be a Senate Inquiry so we can start getting somewhere near the truth.

  1. To see him and the rest of them ducking and weaving on TV whether on the latest in sports rorts, running a protection racket for the state of Israel, gutting NDIS, prevarication on aged care, tying us to the insane Trump admin, caving into the gambling lobby and so on and so on why would anyone vote for them. And don’t say because the Libs are worse.
